In 1927, "Knowlton National" was born in Toronto as Knowlton Nash. He began his career as a part-time Sports Reporter for the Globe and Mail, joining British United Press in 1947 as Bureau Manager in Halifax, Vancouver and Toronto. His first CBC experience was in 1956, freelancing from Washington, D.C. Although best known as the Anchor for The National on CBC Television, he was Director of Television News and Current Affairs when he accepted the Anchor position while searching for a replacement for Lloyd Robertson. Knowlton died May 24, 2014 at the age of 86
