On January 11, 1982, The Journal debuted on CBC Television. It aired nightly after The National. And was a vehicle for Barbara Frum, who died in March 1992 of leukemia. The program only lasted a few more months without her, the final telecast being October 30, 1992. Mark Starowicz was the main force behind The Journal, and Frum was a natural since Starowicz had created CBC Radio's As It Happens from where he drafted her.
