Looks like Neighbours could be gone from UK viewers screens unless
another channel steps up to take over. This is from a few weeks ago but
I never got around to posting it - although I doubt this post will be
read for many months! lol.

Neighbours ‘facing axe after nearly four decades’
Louise Griffin Saturday 5 Feb 2022 8:44 pm
Neighbours is reportedly on the brink of being axed after nearly four
decades on screen.
The iconic Aussie soap, which started in 1985, has producers in talks
about how it could potentially be saved, according to The Sun.
A source told the outlet: ‘Channel 5 pay Fremantle Australia many
millions of pounds every year and, sadly, there’s a shortfall of about
£5million in what it brings back in through advertising.
‘There’s a lot of disbelief and sadness among those who know it’s struggling.’
‘Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer,’ a
Channel 5 spokesperson confirmed to
Metro.co.uk in a statement.
‘It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade,
and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production
team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.
‘We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of
Neighbours across the years.
‘We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision,
however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original
UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.’
Bosses at Channel 5 are said to have been in talks with Fremantle
Australia for weeks to keep the soap on air, but a deal has not been
reached.
It’s thought that the soap, set in Ramsay Street, costs too much to
film, compared to how much it brings in from advertising.
If the show has to end, producers are now reportedly thinking of a way
to help the beloved soap go out with a bang, three years before it
would have celebrated its 40th anniversary.
One plan is for popstar Kylie Minogue to make a sensational return as
Charlene Robinson, after the show helped to launch her career.
The soap saw huge popularity when her character tied the knot with
Scott, played by Jason Donovan, in 1988, although Kylie left soon after.
It’s since become the longest-running drama series in Australian television.
After first airing in Australia, Neighbours went on to become hugely
successful in the UK, after first being screened in 1986.
From 2018, it became the first Australian drama to air year-round in the UK.
Neighbours has also become known for launching incredible careers.
Not only did Jason and Kylie find their start on Ramsey Street, but
actors including Margot Robbie, Liam and Chris Hemsworth, and Russell
Crowe made their names on the Aussie soap.
