I was watching a rerun of the episode in which Vance became director.
His first act was to secretly remove a page from his own personnel
file and shred it. Was it ever revealed what was on that page?

I've asked myself that very question. The only thing I can figure is that
maybe it had something to do with the mission he'd sent the other members of
the team on ... when he separated them. There was a confidential mission.
Perhaps he "destroyed the document".
Other than that ... it would seem he has something he wishes to hide?????
I've wondered about it myself. I used to not trust Vince, but he's actually
growing on me.

It was a still from his short gig as a male exotic dancer. An
impressive photo if you're into that sort of thing, but not NCIS quality.

I still don't completely trust him. We haven't forgotten about that shredded
document, and we would be safe betting our last dollar that the writers haven't
either.
They are unusually good at creating small things with very long tails. ;)

Dude that was last season, that's not a spoiler anymore.

And suppose one of the replies was "Yeah, it was just revealed last
week and it meant..."
Better safe than sorry.
We have learned since that Vance might not be his real identity. But
I thought it was essentially a recruitment by CIA or whoever and he is
not a mole. Gibbs figured it out because of that "once a marine,
always a marine" thing. But it's the spy equivalent of sexual tension
and we may not ever learn anymore or it might be a great cliffhanger.
I'm hoping against it, simply because I hated the Jenny revenge thread that
ran through several seasons, but I bet that you are right. There will
probably be some cliff hanger centered around Vance, once the writers make
him more endearing to all the fans. And I am seeing more fans coming to like
him this year. Besides he would be a good character to tie NCIS and NCIS: LA
together in a season ender.....

I agree with you that the Jenny revenge deal took up way too much time.
I do not find Rocky Carroll's character to be endearing. I liked him
much better on the old "Rock" comedy. Why does the director always have
to have a "backstory" that gives problems to NCIS. Didn't the first guy
just "run" the agency? Seems to be a peripheral character anyway.

It was suppose to be something that was entered into the record but wasn't
true. I recall one episode where someone mentioned that "I thought we
shredded all those," referring to the document that was shredded, but I
can't recall the episode or what it was that was supposedly shredded. So
it's just a red herring that they corrected with a toss off line.

The file was the one that Cort gave Gibbs - but was never read by Gibbs.

And Gibbs gave it to Vance eventually. We *assumed* Gibbs didn't remove but not
read any part of the file first, but we have no way of knowing. Anyway, I very
much doubt that issue is dead yet. There would have been no good reason for
Cort to have given Gibbs the file in the first place if nothing ever comes of
it. Or no reason for us to have seen Vance shredding a sheet from his file. Red
herrings seldom get so much attention.

I agree completely. This is especially true after the episode, Knockout,
when it appears that Vance and Tyler had actually changed identities at
some time in the past.
This is even emphasized more with the female character calling Vance by
some other name, and him telling her not to do that again.

I think it was during the Poker Game investigation that the Sec
Nav was in Gibbs basement for a drink and G showed him the file from
Kort. Sec Nav said something like he thought that had been spiked once
for all. It never happened. Or am I mixed up again?

That is correct. The SECNAV is the one who said, "I thought we got rid of
all of these." Apparently, it was some cover profile thing from his "S2" days
or thereabouts.
I agree that there is still not complete clarity on the issue, but that it might
remain unresolved.

IIRC, the folder was taped. SOP for "eyes only" (NOT "for your eyes
only"). Of course, this document seems to have "somehow" "strayed"
outside of normal chain of custody. :-)
