The Skin Crowd
Christina Aquilera is hangin' out (literally) at the MTV Video Music
Awards in New York. Her life--or body, at least--is an open book in
nothing but a scarf tied around her breasts and an itty-bitty denim
skirt with a silver chain belt, lace-up boots, skunk highlights, a
white captain's cap and a few extra pounds of flesh. Sure, her new
single is called "Dirty," but does she have to dress the part?
Dark Angel
You can't say Jennifer Lopez doesn't dress for the occasion. To
introduce former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani at the MTV Video
Music Awards, she goes dark in a black ruffled blouse with a fitted
mid-calf skirt and lace-up heels by Alexander McQueen. Sure, it's low
cut, and okay, she's got a fun new Shirley Temple 'do, but just
between us, we kinda miss that titillating bright green Versace scarf
dress.
Bite Me Tender
Newlywed Lisa Marie Presley lets her outfit do the talking at the MTV
Awards. And her cropped white "Bite Me" T-shirt and black leather
miniskirt pretty much say it all. You gotta give Elvis' little girl
some points for going punk. Hey, she even toned down her usual beauty
queen bouffant and added some white streaks. Daddy would be so proud!
Off the Cuff
Talk about pimp and circumstance! Justin Timberlake dons a bizarre
black zoot suit with Star Trek-esque pointy cuffs, pegged pants,
black-and-white platform loafers and a goofy hat, worn at a rakish
rapper angle. It's good to know that, left to his own devices, Justin
dresses just as badly as he did when he was with you-know-who.
Sleazy Rider
Pop princess Britney Spears looks like queen of the Harley ball at the
MTV Awards. Or maybe she's early for trick-or-treating with her cocked
leather biker cap, studded mini, lace gloves, diamond choker and
laced-to-the-knees heels. Guess now that she's taking some time off,
she's heading out on the highway to look for adventure...and hopefully
a less Halloweeny getup.
Teacher's Pet
Kate Hudson is a class act at the MTV Awards. She gets a gold star for
her black halter dress by Chloe--made more hip by being worn over blue
jeans--with long dangling necklaces and new shorter, sideswept
haircut. No punk pretensions here, just a gorgeous gal in an elegant
gown with a bit of an edge. Let's take her home to meet Mom!
The XXX-tra Mile
Always edgy Pink is in classic form at the MTV Awards. We're into the
chartreuse-and-black halter dress, with jet black short hair and long
black nails, all put together by stylist Trish Summerville. But we're
over the top for those Vin Diesel-inspired big black tribal tats.
Thank God they're temporary--whew!
Soldier of Fashion
Did Gwen Stefani come to the MTV Awards expecting a gun battle? She's
dressed for urban combat in a simple white tank, black bra and a full
leather Christian Dior dirndl. You could pack some serious grenades
and a night scope in those huge saddle pouches, easy. The long
camouflage-print scarf's cool, but we're glad she passed on the green
beret.
