Pardon me if I'm hopelessly late with this news, but I saw the name
"Josh Weinstein" as a story editor on the 8-27-92 U.S. broadcast of
"The Simpsons". Is this the same Weinstein who used to be on the
creative staff of Mystery Science Theatre 3000?

Could be. He was writing for the show "Clash" on Comedy Central a while back,
but I hadn't seen his name anywhere for a while. I think he would fit right
in with The Simpsons. I hope it is the same guy!
"Larry" Meets Bart! too good to be true!

According to a posting on alt.tv.simpsons I read last night, it is
indeed the same Josh Weinstein. The article on the Simpsons
newsgroup mentioned that Josh is a 1988 Stanford grad (I hope I
got that right) and used to write for Comedy Central.

Having just called Best Brains, I can say that they are unaware of Josh
working on the Simpsons, but that he is based in LA now. The person I
talked to thought it was probably him, but told me to call back next
week to talk to someone else about it.

On an unrelated note-

I was alarmed to hear that the 1st <comedy channel> season of MST3K was NOT
going to be re-run. I asked Best Brains about this, and was told that
the rights are held up somehow, tied to the Ha!/Comedy Channel merger.
Apparently, the early KTMA episodes are in the same situation. But, it
they can go another season or so, they will have enough episodes to go into
syndication!!! And most of the above episodes will be included. They are
also considering selling episodes on tape, about the same time.
As soon as that happens, I'll be camped out by their offices to get a copy
of "Humanoid Woman"! Cross your fingers!

... the implication is that the KTMA episodes were actually "saved".
Last I heard, nobody seemed to know for sure what became of them. Do
they fershure exist? I haven't read this newsgroup in a while, so if
this is "old news", could somebody just email me the word, and not
clog up the net?

Thanks,

Charles

KTMA was the UHF TV station that MST3K started on. They were located in Mpls.
Although one would think that such a daring move would have shown them to
have unusual insight and taste, they got worse and worse, and were
eventually bought by a religious organization and became "Son-Light 23,
KLGT". Best Brains has the early episodes and has said that they are
trying to get them re-shown.
