Q: Is Joel leaving?
A: Yes.
Q: No, come on, is he really leaving?
A: Yes. Joel will no longer be the human host of MST3K.
Q: He's REALLY, *REALLY* leaving us?
A: OK. Here's the deal. Joel Hodgeson, known to us all as Joel Robinson,
the human host of Mystery Science Theater 3000, has decided to take it
easy for a while and not host the show anymore. He is not leaving the
company which he founded (Best Brains, Inc.) however. As of episode
512: Mitchell, Joel will be replaced by Mike Nelson, head writer for
MST3K. Many of us know Mike from his guest appearances, such as Hugh
Beaumont and hexfield viewscreen guests. Joel will still be with BBI,
but he will not be in front of the camera. He will still be involved with
all aspects of the show that he was previously. It is rumored that
Joel will be taking a three month sabbatical, after which he will be
involved in the day-to-day operations about 1/3 of the time he is now,
and go back to doing stand up comedy. (Source: episode 501:Warrior of
the Lost World among other places).
Q: OK. I guess Joel really is leaving. How are they going to do the switch?
A: BBI and CC are keeping a very tight lid on this, but here's what we
know so far. It will not be an unnoticed swap as with the Darrens from
Bewitched. Joel will not die (No word as to whether he will be rescued
or not). Gypsy will be instrumental in the switch. The show will
continue as usual.
Q: Will there be any major changes due to the switch?
A: Yes. There will be a whole new theme song, and the 1..2..3..4..5..6..G
door seguence will be changed.
Q: Who's better, Joel or Mike?
A: As with the Larry/Frank debate, everyone has their own opinion as
to who is better. Please do not waste time and bandwidth by repeatedly
bringing up this topic. Think about it, won't you? Thank you.

A: Keep in mind that many of us wish to wait until the episode airs in

I think in the recent TV Guide article about MST3K they said it was an
episode mid-November. They're supposedly making it a transition
episode with Gypsie as the mastermind behind Joel's escape!

You're right. Kind of. The net doesn't exist to answer people's
questions. Setting aside the actual history of the net, the net these
days is primarily used for discussion. No one is obliged to answer
anyone's questions, although it might be considered polite to do so.
You seem, however, to be completely missing one of the general pieces of
netiquette. Its really not acceptable to post blindly to a group, nor to
post to a group without reading the FAQ. The reason an FAQ exists is so
that people will stop breaking into the general conversation and making
themselves look silly by telling us something we already know, or asking
something that's in the FAQ. Now that the section on Joel leaving is in
the FAQ, we can simply chastise newbies to go read the FAQ, and come back
later. People should NOT be asking the same questions over and over.
Anyone who posts such a frequently asked question should simply be ignored
instead of flamed. The FAQ exists to give general info, so that new
people can know what is common knowledge, and then start to contribute new
stuff.
As for people who post blind...well, a cursory reading of this group for a
day or two would show that there is usually a reference or two to the
imminent departure. People who post to a newsgroup without reading it
first deserve to get flamed to a golden crisp, if they were even worth it.

I for one just wish SOMEONE would please post WHERE the faq is located. The
last time someone posted a location, they weren't too sure of it, and I
certainly couldn't find it there. It seems to me that when people post flames
or whatever demanding that everyone should read the faq, they may want to
mention where it is.
Sorry if this came out bitchy, it was entirely unintended.
