Well, speaking as a confirmed addict of late night science fiction
movies -- I used to look *forward* to watching stuff like AMAZING
COLOSSAL MAN and BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE at 3 a.m. ;>

But, to answer your question, I'd say that some of the movies
that had better production values than, say, MONSTER A-GO-GO and
looked like they had spent their money wisely (at least in places)
would be:

THE MAGIC SWORD
THE DAY THE EARTH FROZE
THE MAGIC VOYAGE OF SINBAD

(I'd actually like to see these last two in their original cuts,
subtitled without the ludicrous dubbing).

I wouldn't have turned any of those off if I hadn't seen them
before. (Another big plus going for all three is that they are all
very *strange*).

And, of course there's SPACE TRAVELERS (a.k.a. MAROONED) which
actually won an Oscar for SFX.

I'd also add to that list _The Rebel Set_. It's actually a pretty decent
little heist movie. I think it's MSTability lies mainly with the presence
of Edward Platt, providing endless "Get Smart" references.
You *really* think _Magic Voyage of Sinbad_ is not that bad?? The underwater
scene alone sets off my Cheese-O-Meter (doo doo doo doo doo...).

That reminds me of another good film, in Season 2- First Spaceship from
Venus. Supposedly a very good foreign film that got absolutely mutilated
(by 50 minutes!) in the American release...

Ed Platt is the best thing about THE REBEL SET. He gets to play an
intelligent, classy criminal mastermind. Probably the best acting he
ever did.

Ok, I'll give you that one. The underwater sequence is (I guess)
supposed to be whimsical fantasy, but cheese is still cheese no matter
how whimsical. Still, other effects (like the Bird of Happiness hypnosis
scene) are done quite nicely, I think.

I'd be interested to know, Chad, if anyone has ever verified that
they actually *did* PHASE IV. There seems to be a lot of confusion
amongst the various episode guides that I've seen. I know it's not
circulating, because Brian Dunkle doesn't have it. Maybe juliewa knows
for sure?

No, same as no one can verify that they did Thunderbirds are Go (which
is another one of those supposed-to-be-ok movies- especially the killer
rock n roll scenes)... but I included it in there just because. (:
