MST3K has done a lot of depressing movies, but which ones float up to
the top for your votes?

I remember "Tormented", the movie with the guy who didn't save that girl
from falling off the lightower. Then she haunts him through the whole
movie. It was pretty freaky, especially with the severed head screaming
"Tom Stewart killed me!" over and over (the stinger). Even Joel
commented during the flick that it was really dark and depressing, when
the murderer takes the little girl to the top of the lighthouse. Then
the ending with the ring on the corpse's finger... OOOO!!!!
Don't get me wrong. It was still a horrible movie, but it by MST3K
standards, I think it was one of the more depressing pictures.

Other depressing flicks:

Screaming Skull
The Dead Talk Back
And of course, MANOS, for obvious reasons

I think "The Brain that Wouldn't Die" would depress a hyena.

Hobgoblins. I felt sad that the kid in the red shorts didn't get the
slut. Just a hopeless romatic I guess. ;-)

"The Girl from Lovers Lane" - They ripped the end of that movie
apart because the girl got killed at the end. Also the whole
movie had a depressing 'slit-your-wrists' feel to it.

Definitely "Rocket Attack USA."

It starts out as a normal (lame) cold war/spy kinda movie...then the main
characters die and Russia nukes the United States...how's that for an ending?
and the shots with the kids and the blind guy...

Hey, don't you mean The Head That would Not Die?

Jeez, that one sucked. It wasn't bad/funny, just bad/boring. The title
thing was funny, though.

I'd have to go with "Leaving Las Vegas" I know this film was never MSted, but
it was the worst thing I've ever seen. Think about it, a drunk tring to drink
himself to death? not only that, getting a hocker and oh hell I dnno. Just
made me think, "Gee, what an uplifting film."

But I will say that Cage did portray a good drunk.

How about "I Accuse My Parents"? A fairly dark film about a neglected
teenager who falls in with the mob and ruins his life...I don't think "Up
With People" was on the soundtrack to that one.

I find shorts to be more depressing... here are my top threee

A) Cheating (equally creepy)
B) The one with all those short stories about how one moment of
carelessness ruined their lives forever
C) The one with the two teens dying while having fun in their car and
the psycho cop (name forgotten)

Don't forget the immortal Manos:Hands of Fate. That weird scene with the
little girl as one of the master's wives - weird. Then there's the fact that
this movie was made at all. That's depressing in itself.

I just have to vote for The Touch of Satan. Uggh. That movie was just -
uggh. On the other hand, for plain bad movie, one that MST3K did, I will
never again watch Attack of the the Eye Creatures. I can stand Manos, but
AottEC will never again go in my VCR.

Castle of Fu Man Chu. I was so suicidal after that one I actually taped
over it. I wish I hadn't but I was only about 16 at the time and you know

I go with M&TB on this one: Invasion of the Neptune Men - so bad my

I think it's a tie between Sidehackers and Girl in Lovers' Lane. IMHO.
Mindbendingly depressing endings...

I liked Sidehackers!!! That was the first MST3K movie I saw all the way
through, thus becoming "hooked"...the song with Joel and the 'Bots is
great! (What are the lyrics?)

For me the two worst, most depressing are the Neptune Man one and (gasp)
Jack Frost. BARF!

I can't believe you hate this one!I know it was a horrible horrible movie but
that episode had some of the greatest riffs of Season 8-9 and I consider it to
be third best from season 8 after Prince of Space and The Mole People. I
personally have to go with Castle of Fu Man Chu. That was a horribly depressing
movie and my least favorite MST3k episode.

I'd have to go with "Red Zone Cuba". Depressing, confusing, and just plain
BAD! The riffing wasn't up to par, nor were the host segments.

While there are still a number of CC eps I don't remember too clearly or
missed altogether, I have to put my vote in for "Red Zone Cuba" as well (I
was wondering if anyone else shared that opinion). Manos was painful, but
Red Zone Cuba was not only bad, it was so dull in all regards I actually
fell asleep while watching it! I've never fallen asleep while watching TV,
let alone one of my favorite shows, but man, this was a stinker.

All of the bad episodes have at least one or two riffs or moments, but I
got nothing out of Red Zone Cuba- although admittedly I slept through
about a half hour of it- but still, that's one tape that never goes back
in my VCR.

How about High School Bigshot? The drunken old dad asking the kid to
split his last 10 bucks so they can both go on a date? The hoodlum's
girlfriend playing Marvin like a violin? Pretty much everbody dies at
the end. (Wah!)

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the episode.. they did a GREAT job
riffing, and I loved the host segment that included Krankor's visit.
It's the movie that was just so horrible.. long, depressing, painful...
