I just got done taping it - it's "The Rebel Set" I still am confused as
to who he was. Maybe it's just too much MST3K and "The Stand" all in
one night - must be overtired.

Yes he's from "The Rebel Set", which will air again on 5/21, and I'm
_really_ going to tape it this time.
I work in a library and I scoured literally _every_ movie guide we have
and _never_ found any reference to Merritt Stone. I swear, I looked just
like Joel at the end of the episode, surrounded by all those video
guides. It doesn't appear that he was a real person. We'll have to get
together after the 5/21 showing.
Nothing like an obscure references to bring MiSTie's together...

"Water! The source of all...oh forget it."
Someone with that name appeared in several movies in the 50s. Check out
the movie database available on the World Wide Web.
It even lists films that Maurice Cass was in, as per a previous posting.
And we know how it helped us with Molly W...

I'm glad you posted this. The whole "Merritt Stone" thing has always
confused me. I keep looking up things in those "movie guide" type books,
but a lot of movies on MST aren't even included, making finding any
information a lot harder! Guess that's why it's _Mystery_ Science Theater.

Well, yes and no. His name isn't in the credits for Rebel Set, but he
is listed in the credits for The Magic Sword, Earth vs. the Spider, and
Tormented.
The one they kept referring to as Merritt Stone (the "Gary Busey-like
conductor guy") was apparently Gene Roth (Rebel Set, Spider, Tormented,
and Attack of the Giant Leeches). Jack Coslyn's name got thrown into
the discussion for no apparent reason, other than to make Tom's head
explode.
Sorry to get so into this, but it was the first MST3K I ever saw from
start to finish. It left me with some odd ideas about the show, I can
tell you.
