I enjoyed watching the Max Headroom pilot on More4 last night. I really wish
one of the Freeview channels would repeat the series.

Not very likely. The series was owned by the US production company Lorimar
and ABC, and the rights have devolved to Warner Brothers (not sure if ABC
retained anything). They are... in opposition to the majority owners of the
character and UK shows, so cooperation is unlikely.

You can find several MH episodes on In2TV, though.

Damn, damn, and double damn! I set my video and forgot to set short
play to get the best picture/sound quality! I've been waiting for
this to come on TV for DECADES! Well, at least I did get it on tape!

Somebody (us?) really needs to get a campaign organised to get
whoever has the various rights to sort out releasing a (a few?) Max
Headroom DVD set(s)!

Any thoughts on that one James? Could MaxHeadroom.com be a base for
this kind of thing? It might take a little activism to get enough
people aware enough to add to a petition or something?

There is already movement in this area - a new UK media consortium has
swept up the UK and general rights and is planning some releases and
exploitation. The US rights are still murky, and there is at least one
other player staking a claim to ownership etc.

MaxHeadroom.com IS the net nexus for Max... but I've never been convinced
that online petitions etc. do a damn bit of good. But I'm open to
discussion here or on the web forums about how to show the various owners
that a ready market exists.

MaxHeadroom.com IS the nexus for Max activity and efforts on the web.

I haven't encouraged a DVD campaign because I have grave doubts about
the effectiveness of online petitions and the like, and for a larger
reason: the ownership of the Max materials is scattered among several
holders who do not agree. Although a new UK consortium holds the UK and
other major originator rights, the rights to the US series are held by
another organization, and there is at least one conflicting ownership
claim to pretty much the whole thing.

So we can shout and march in the streets and such, but the effect is
more likely to be "nothing" or throwing gasoline on the smoldering fire
of rights issues than achieving anything positive.

The situation has to work out in the background. Max willing, it will be
soon.

I see what you mean here, but can't help but wonder if some
legitimate fan-based demand might push things along?

Can't say as it wouldn't. I can only note that very few "Save [insert
favorite TV show]!!!!" campaigns work even when the issues like rights and
ownership are clear. Agitating at least two and as many as five entities
who don't see eye to eye... well, you can try.

MH.com is at your disposal if you want to organize the effort. A dedicated
forum on MaxChat might be one leg of an effort.

Well, it seems as if I've put myself up for having a go. I'll
register tommorrow and see what I can come up with for starters.

Can I have a badge or something too? ;)

True. However, I *will* need the forum board to send me confirmation
of my new account. How come its so slow?

Because you didn't read the new user orientation. The forum doesn't
automatically validate users. Even I don't automatically validate users.
Unvalidated users... don't even exist. You have to drop me an email
alerting me to your too-too human presence.

You can thank about 30 spambot accounts each day for this annoying state
of affairs. Since most of them only want to get into the user list with
their load of spam URLs, I modified the forum to hide unvalidated users.
From time to time I use an admin tool to delete all the new, unvalidated
accounts whose users didn't ping me.

And yes, I've applied all the anti-abuse mods and traps I can. I lack
time or interest to keep fencing with these Russian jackals, even though
it throws up a big hurdle for legitimate users joining the forum.

Ah! Cunningly disguised by missing the word "new" on the link to it.
Curses! Foiled again! (Now read and complied with.)

Sounds like you've done the logical thing. My bad for missing it. I
should do these things earlier in the day. ;)
