Ah. There was one other viewer. What was Ian's excuse for not watching?

I thought making Amos a gruff old doctor but sympathetic and competent
when recast with David Wayne (yeah, different last name than the Amos
played by Art Carney in the movie) hurt. There just wasn't any point
to the character. I thought Dr. Solomon as Frank Burns lite was an awful
character.
Hm. I didn't remember why Lynn Redgrave left the show, but it was awful
without her. IMDb sez
Lynn Redgrave left [House Calls] in 1981 in a very public
dispute with Universal Television. The studio claimed that the
dispute related to her salary, while Redgrave claimed that the
studio refused to allow her to breast feed her newborn daughter
in between takes on the set. Redgrave sued the studio, but lost
when the litigation was dismissed thirteen years later.
and
In 1981, [Lynn] Redgrave was fired from a show called 'House Calls'
and Universal Studios released a statement saying that Redgrave
had left the CBS series because the studio wouldn't meet her salary
demands. However, Redgrave told a very different story via People
Magazine and asserted she was forced off the TV show because she
wanted to breast-feed her 5-week-old daughter on set. Universal
denied this claim, but a phone call transcript recorded Pete
Terranova, who was a negotiator for Universal at the time, saying
that the breast feeding "is the biggest problem of all for us.".
I recall that Redgrave was barely on the show when pregnant, just had
brief scenes and she and Rogers didn't do much, I assume toward the
end of the pregnancy.
