Looks to me like it's afflicting this group as well, but I suppose
when elsig vaporized, so did the relentless enthusiam in the topic.
It's funny too, because as I sit here selecting and transferring my
favorite eps from S1 and S2 to disc, I'm reminded that it's also
disappearing from television. Then, I just happened to catch Alda
hosting some PBS documentary this evening and began to understand why.
Things get old and outlive their usefulness, and soon, Usenet will
vanish too.

come. We can bore our grandkids stupid with endless
reminisce about phone dialup modems, and writing letters by
hand.

Yeah, but I still gotta say, this was one helluva cool newsgroup. It was

I met McLean Stevenson several times, when I was working at a celebrity
golf tournament. He was very nice, and great with the spectators. He
also emceed the show that the celebs threw for the volunteers.

I also saw Alan Alda live when he was doing the pre-Broadway rehearsals
of "Jake's Women"; but I didn't get to meet him face-to-face. :(

Elsig was a like eggs to this group and to the show. He was a binding,
thickening agent that held the hopes, concepts, dreams, aspirations and
jokes that only MASH could provide.

I'm certain he would have a monumentally funny comment about being
compared to eggs, and I wish we could hear it.

The group should continue to enjoy the contact with each other and the
appreciation of a once-in-a-lifetime event like MASH.

I'll try to remember. Of course, no one can know what Larry
would say, being compared to eggs. We could ask the cast, of
course.

Potter: I can't say as I'm big on eggs. I remember the time
in doubleyou doubleyou one, when all we had for a week was
eggs. The quartermaser had put in right, but one of them
damn Germans had sunk the supply ship. Of course, we traded
with the locals . That French bread was really the best
thing since the indoor latrine. But, we sure did get tried
of powdered eggs after a week straight, three meals a day.

Margaret: Well, you know. Powdered eggs were one of the very
few meals my Dad could cook. So, we had eggs every day after
Mom left.

Rizzo. Hmm. Lets see now. Well, they all be going go the
same place. Now you done it to me, my see gar went out
again.

Radar: We had eggs on my Ucle Ed's farm. Uncle Ed had a
bunch of chickens,a nd it was my job to go out and get the
eggs. I wonder how they are doing, now that I'm here at the
war and all.

Mulcahy: Ah, the smple lowly egg. Symbolic of so much in the
gospel. Why, now that I thiink of it, I'm surprised they
aren't mentioned more in the Bible. Truly symbolic of so
much.

BJ: I like em over hard, not all runny inside.

scrambled, it's the only way.

Winchester: Ah, thes, the only way. Why, when I was a boy.
My grand mother, bless her sainted heart. We would spend the
entire day sledding in the exculsive golf club, which had
some tremendous sledding hills. Dad would pick us up in the
37 Cadillac, and we would come home to the smells of egs and
toast. My sweat sainted grand mother would cook them on the
newest gas stove, with a trace of butter and pepper. Why, it
brings back the memories.

Blake: Righty Oh! You just crack em in a pan, and scramble
em up. They eat plenty fine over toast and with a touch of
salt. RADA..... I told you never to do that. Now, get me
the, right, the camp stove that you have in your hands. Now,
did I want anything else? That will be all.

...I all but stopped posting because I figured I had questioned Elsig
more than my share, had posted my top 5 episodes one too many times,
and because Eddie and I were buried in the writing of the book. As
has always been the case, I ride a MASH roller coaster. I'm into it
heavily for a time, then I take a breather and get away for a while.
If it's not on TV as much, that's only because there is an
astronomical amount of trash on TV at any given time..and fresh stuff
is given priority, no matter how bad it is. If anything, MASH may be
getting a bit lost in the shuffle because of so much new programming.
But, it will prevail, unlike the bevy of cheap reality shows out
there, now. I still visit Ebay, daily, in my constant search for
photos of scenes from the early days, and shots of the ranch
location. And, my views on the show, and my preferences there-of,
seem to be getting much more set in their ways. It is odd, however,
to come here and know Elsig has passed on. Nice that JM is here.

Thanks, Jeff. I wish I'd managed some how to meet the MASH
crew in person. Me, of course, and about a zillion other
fans. I'm sure a few are still with us, and I guess I could
be making the rounds, meeting folks.

I wonder if the MASH crew would like to meet the fans, or if
they would prefer to live lives of quiet and peace?
