I liked both but I liked Mike Farrell's portrayl of BJ Hunnicut better.
Simply because BJ had a much more nicer caring demeanor family man who
was madly in love with his wife. Whereas Trapper was always cheating on
his wife and enjoyed doing it and he had a smart aleck attitude.

I would have to disagree. I prefer the Trapper and Hawkeye relationship
much better than BJ and Hawkeye. Sorry.

Absolutely Trapper! Great chemistry between Trapper and Hawkeye. BJ was just
a bit too nice, not in keeping with the spirit of the original movie. I dread
the end of season three episodes.

Did we ever know for certain if Trapper cheated, or was he all talk and
innuendo?

The Trapper/Hawkeye relationship was good, but the BJ/Hawkeye relationship was
better mainly because BJ was more down to earth, and brought out Hawkeye's
serious side.

While at the MASH he definitely dated ("The Consultant") and made out with
("There Is Nothing Like A Nurse") the nurses. Whether he ever got to home
plate with any of them probably doesn't matter; the intent was there. He
also joked about his wife's suspicions too often and casually for me to
believe they weren't real and with basis.

BJ may have been a more moral guy, but chemistry and comedy wise,
the Hawkeye-Trapper team had to have been one of the best comedy teams in
history. Their timing, the jokes, all was classic. From a pure comedy
standpoint, Trapper is number one hands down.

That's a toss-up. I didn't care for Trapper's attitude toward marriage,
but then again I haven't lived through a war close-up (tomorrow we may
die).

IMO, B.J. was best before he grew the moustache. He reminded me a lot
of my brother's best friend in college.

Well....if you take "Trapper John M.D." into account, he did seem to think
there was an excellent chance he was that one man's father. (By an affair with
a Korean woman.) Being a doctor, I'd think he'd know how that happened. ;-)

Me, I prefer B.J.--I didn't care for Trapper's attitude towards his marriage.

I believe it went something like this :
'my wife thinks I joined the army just to cheat on her'
'you did'
'yes but how did she know'

if anyone knows the exact quote it would be much appreciated!

I like the scene where Trapper emerges from the OR for a break after a long
stretch and starts talking with another nurse. He says something like, "Hey,
I've got 10 minutes and you've got 10 minutes, so between us we've got 20
minutes. Let's go."

Actually the exchange I was thinking of was from the scene when Trapper
John says he's sending his poker winnings home to his wife. "It's for her
private detective fund."

Hawkeye asks, "She has you followed over here?"

"No, it's for when I get home. Starting the second night."

TRAPPER ALL THE WAY! Sure Beej had his moments but the Hawk/Trap
chemistry is what made me a MASH fan. Hawk was in his best form when
Trap was his partner in crime.

It seems to me that Trapper almost tried to 'upstage' Hawkeye....where BJ was a
"straight man" sometimes and at other times was adding to the "routine".
Could this be why Trapper left and BJ entered? More of a comedy "team" and not
2 funny guys in the same scene?

Just a thought............

from what I remember (it's been a few years since I've had access to
the show), both Trapper and Beej were excellent in their own way. I
can't imagine M*A*S*H as a whole without either of them!

BJ by far TRAPPER was cool and funny
but BJ could be both serious and funny
I think most people have an easier time
relating to BJ because of these qualities
most of the chemistry between HAWKEYE
and BJ had more storyline potential!

I am going to have to go with BJ Hunnicutt. Don't get me wrong, I loved
Trapper too, but there was something about Hunnicutt that just clicked
with me. =)

At least a couple times.

Farrell was AWFUL--"Peg" this/"Peg" that--they even did an episode where Hunnicutt talked about his kid's potty training no less!! No Trapper (the late Wayne Rogers) was by far better--I only bought the DVD's from the first 3 seasons as those were the ones Trapper was on

MASH had seen it's fill of slap stick which we saw with the original cast. If the series had not of changed it would not have last much longer. 1st three 3 are historically the lowest rated and are listed among the most individually dislike episodes. Of course the worst of the worst has to be "Hawkeye." which is a later season episode.

We saw constantly that Trapper cheated. Now we may not have seen him fornicating other than a few episodes you saw no evidence that fornication went on at all but it was well known he cheated.

I like BJ better, because he was more relatable. Or maybe I wanted him to be more relatable. I think the problem I had with Trapper is the fact he did cheat on his wife many times. Granted, BJ did fall from grace, also, but he was unbelievably upset about it. Trapper didn't seem to care.

It could have also been the attitude of the times and also the situation.
