There was no real teddy bear. The teddy bear in M*A*S*H was a composite of
several actual teddy bears, but any resemblence to any particular teddy bear
was purely coincidental.

...And no teddy bears were harmed in the making of these episodes.

*smirk* So how about an ACTUAL answer this time?
Wasn't it buried in the time capsule :-)?
-Bob
I don't have an answer but I still say Radar's bear and Mr Howell's bear
were one and the same.
I suspect it was part of the package packed off to the Smithsonian when
the series ended, but I don't specifically recall from when all that was
on exhibit when I was there in 1983. Though I'm suspicious that I should
have failed to notice if it *wasn't* there. I think I'd remember that.
Oh hey wait, didn't they put it in the time capsule they really buried
when they did the time capsule episode, like they did in the time capsule
episode? Did we ever establish whether that's got dug up again or not?

"Hey, whatsa matter you? I can't-a let you in until-a you say 'swordfish'."
I'm pretty sure that the Swamp and / or the O.R. is there.
Help? ;-)

JD....please e-mail me.

That's what I thought too. It was mentioned in "Memories of M*A*S*H", I'm
sure, that the still was in the Smithsonian.

They were in September 1983. They weren't to be on display permanently though.
The signpost may be all that's still out.

Kalter's book I think was published in 1984. At the time, the O.R., Swamp, the
still and a helmet with a Red Cross were on diplay at the National Museum of
American History at The Smithsonian Institution.
As for the signpost, I think that's still on display. I don't know about the
others.
Well, that puts to rest, once and for all, those "vicious teddy bear
sacrificial ritual" rumors, eh? I've heard that teddy bears were dismembered
for each take of a scene, and that Igor is the repository of a secret recipe
for Teddy Bear Soup. Special effect blood? Nah, just open a vein on a teddy.
Stunt men too expensive for combat scenes? Hey, just dress teddies in
uniforms, put 'em in toy trucks, blow 'em up! Teddy bear sex slaves at
Rosie's, teddy bears used as caddys, teddy bear targets...hell, they even
stuffed teddys down mortars and launched 'em while Rizzo took bets! Frank
needs surgical practice - slice open a teddy bear.
Strictly rumors, of course.

I thought he was seeing Mr. Howel's teddy bear?

I just want to know if all the rumors about the teddy were true. I've always
heard that he was really hard to work with. Very demanding, wanting more
screen time, more lines, more money. A real prima donna. Of course, they
could just be unwarranted rumors. Did Jackie Cooper mention him in his book?

To get a copy of my M*A*S*H episode guide (Access, Excel, Acrobat or HTML),
go to my website at http://natemple.virtualave.net
I don't believe JC mentions him in his book but I know Teddy has a whole
chapter on Jackie in his book, "T*E*D*D*Y."
JD
But his autobiography, "MASH: The Bear Facts" was outstanding.
Already punishing himself for that one,
Forbin
Didn't he sue Jack Webb when his book came out "Just the Facts ... the Bear
Facts"? I know it was a typo on the publishers end but I think he had a
legitimate point. ;-)

Well, _I_ heard that he and Snuggles were a big item....
Yeah, right, in my dreams!
But thanks for the compliment. Just the sort of pick me up I needed on a
Monday morning!
Someone thought they saw him in a Burger King in Nashville, but it was Elvis.
It's a common mistake.
Waiting for the King,
