Folks:

My girlfriend and I are having a discussion, a fight really, about what
happened with Ho-Jon.

As we all know, money was raised in the pilot episode to send him back to
the US to attend school. However, Ho Jon continues to appear in nine more
future episodes, most notably "I Hate a Mystery" and "Ceasefire".

I've attempted to search the web for FAQs and sites in hopes of finding an
answer. No luck. Any insight into this would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Cheers!

VirtualGuy

In the novel series he became admissions director for the college.

In the original novel, he was also sent to the US to attend school. About
the TV-show, I suggest the easiest way to solve this chronological mess is
to assume that the Pilote episode takes place after episodes like "I Hate a
Mystery" and "Ceasefire", even if it was produced and shown before those.

In the original film, he gets drafted into the Korean army.

As for the series, it could be that his other appearances simply take
place before he left. There's nothing in the pilot episode to suggest
he was paking his bags and leaving immediately.

That's my take on it as well.

Eddie, Larry's take on Ho-Jon's departure not being right after the
dough was raised for hm is yours and that of many other Mash fans.

Or the other HoJon episodes could simply be placed soon after the pilot.

In the pilot it was mentioned he'd be going to school in the fall, next
semester, or whatever so there may have been a waiting period. And yes, it
greatly scares me that I know that, Steve

For the series... They only have HoJon listed for season 1 and 2 so
basically he moved on or finally went to College...

These are the only eps "Ho Jon" was in and they're all S1.
If the IMDB has him listed as '72 / '73, they're incorrect. It's not unusual.

Adiarte, Patrick - Ho Jon - Pilot, The Moose, Cowboy, Henry Please Come Home,
I Hate A Mystery, Germ Warfare, Cease-Fire.

Right, but having the first several seasons on DVD, I can tell you
that Ho Jon does not appear after the first season.

They're probably referring to the '72/'73 TV season. Which was Season 1.

The episodes were aired out of sequence to when they were filmed.

Are you trying to suggest that the episode in which Ho Jon's school money
is raised was shot after the other episodes he was in? The episode when
the school money was raised was the pilot episode: the episode that the
producers shot first, before they shot any others, so that the studio and
the network got a sample episode from which to decide whether they wanted
there to *be* any more episodes shot.

Plus, while some episodes were aired out of production order in original
primetime run, in syndication episodes *are* run in production order (with
some exceptions dictated by continuity, e.g. 'Welcome to Korea' and the
last four Burghoff were in).
