ERROR spotted in episode #107 "The Colonel's Horse" (12/7/76)

Group: alt.tv.mash Date: Fri, Jul 2, 2004, 4:22am (EDT+4) From:

x-no-archive: yes
After watching "The Colonel's Horse" (#107, 12/7/76), I noticed an error
I did not think about previously.   [Written by Jim Fritzell and
Everett Greenbaum. Directed by Burt Metcalfe.]
Radar is on the horn, trying to get Quapaw, OK to get ahold of B.J.'s
father (in-law?) who knows all about sick horses.
Hawkeye is standing nearby and hums "M-O-U-S-E" to the old "Mickey Mouse
Club Show" tv theme song. Mickey Mouse existed at the time, of course,
but not the theme song until late 1955, which was more than 2 years
after the Korean War ended!
good catch

Yes, it was BJ's father-in-law they were trying to get a hold of by
phone. I caught that MM anachronism too.

This is a good catch but can be said that Hawkeye just said that after
BJ spelled his Father-In-Laws last name...

I'm too young to know but before the theme was made up... Did they
ever spell out Mickey Mouse's name?

If I didn't know better, I'd think that was an Alan Alda quip put in on his
own, and it went so well, they left it. It's really cute, even if it doesn't
match the time.

I thought elsig said once that the actors didn't do any ad lib, but just went
by script? Perhaps it was a WRITER's error in not checking out the era the
Mickey Mouse song was from.

Elsig, was it in the script (the Mickey Mouse Club song line)?

based on the number of these type errors i feel that mash was not in korea
after all. it really existed in the wormhole on ST ds9 where linear time did
not exist.

Elsig, were you with MASH till the last ep Larry Linville appeared in?
If so was the Mickey Mouse song in the script or not?

That's at least as defensible as any other theory this newsgroup has put
forward (and that's speaking as one of the theorists).

not to mention that some of the 'foreigners' had the same faces but
different names...Soon Tek Oh and Mako (Mako did appear in more than one ep,
didn't he?) come to mind...and forgive the spelling on those if I missed...

if I had greater confidence in my ability to mimic some of the language
spoken on the show, I'd try to find folks that could help me translate it...
like mulcahey saying bung chow, etc

That was one of the first things mentioned here about MASH as a documentary.
Clothing indigenous to the Vietnamese.

Yes - but you do know that all "orientals" look alike don't you? (Grin).

I know that some episodes show a real effort was made towards versimiltude
in depiction of Koreans, their culture, and language. Others are not so
good.

I've tried to get my wife to view a few episodes. She's not interested. She
finds it boring. Other than that we get along fine.

Two of my very favorites! Soon Tek Oh always played the smiling, friendly one,
and Mako, the tough, hard character. In other things they were in, I noticed a
similarity for the same characterization, possibly because of the facial
features of each. Great actors!!
