I'm assuming that a TV star (even a minor one) doing a Playboy pictorial was a
reasonably taboo thing to do back in 1972. So, I was curious to know if this
pictorial led to her dismissal from the series, or if she was written out for
entirely separate reasons. Anyone know? (Mr. Gelbart?)
Thanks.
Jeff
The Playboy issue was not an issue. We just had too many regulars on our
hands. She was not so dismissed, as not referred to again.

I think it says alot for Elsig and the entire M*A*S*H crew that they didn't
exploit the Playboy situation. If this had happened in today's surroundings,
Lt. Dish might have been promoted to head nurse and had a more prominent role
in the series.
Further proof that M*A*S*H was truly cut from a different cloth.
You may or not remember that in the pilot episode, written before Ms. Phillips
appeared in Playboy, that Hawkeye fantasized her sitting naked in the Mess
Tent.
Ah, those carefree, mindless, Politically Incorrect days.
Aaah, so you purposely provoked and tricked Playboy (against their own weak
will) into portaying her in this state of nakedness?
Never underestimate the power of suggestiveness.

Well, on behalf of scores of inidividuals who have seen her pictorial, thank
you. (I am not speaking from experience, mind you.)
What month in 1972 did Dish appear?

Too much gets read into these things. I can remember in 1988 people were
saying Denise Crosby got fired from Star Trek: The Next Generation because
she appeared in Playboy around the same time. The truth is Playboy was
capitilizing on her TV appearance on a popular show to publish pictures
that were shot years earlier. Denise actually left the show on her own
decision.

Actually, that was in Germ Warfare (sorry to nitpick) but it usually gets
cut in syndication.

Thanks for finding some of the memory I seem to have lost.

Believe it or not, I didn't even notice it was you I was correcting. I
feel like I told a god he was wrong!
