The only regular(or semi-regular) actor who appeared on Mash and was
Hebrew for sure is Alan Arbus (Sidney Freedman). Johnny Haymer (Zale)
and Herb Voland ,who played the visiting general were both most likely
Jewish but it's tough to be completely certain. Surprisingy Hugh Hefner
is not descended from the 12 Tribes of ancient Judah and Israel!

My arabic uncle never got to be on the show though he was there a lot. As a
matter of fact the actors ate at my uncles resturant near by.

What about Harry Bratsburg? aka Harry Morgan?

Your point here?
As one of the descendents of one of those tribes, I was wondering why this
thread?

Harry Morgan is not Jewish at all! He was in a commercial about 14 years
ago where he said (playing himself) "This Scandinavian's going home to
Greece". Thus, he's either Danish,Sweedish, or Norwegian and his
religion is probably Lutheran. I understand fully why you might think
he's Jewish with his name ending in burg but remember a lot of European
Jewish names and culture have a German feel (Yiddish itself is German
and Hebrew languages mixed together). The peoples of Scandinavia are
highly akin linguistically ,genetically, culturally, and namewise to
Germans. And that my friends is why Morgan's name sounds Jewish when in
fact he is not Hebrew at all.

By the way the above mentioned commercial was for Greek travel. Going
home to Greece meant going to the land where Western or European
civilisation started. The birthplace of democracy. No matter where in
Europe your roots are you have cultural roots in Greece or something
like that. Neil Sedaka,Peter Graves, and other celebrities also
advertised talking about where their ancestors came from and how they
were going home to Greece!

Has anyone ever noticed the rather shocking number of non-Jewish actors who
appeared in the series?

I was wondering about that myself.
What does this have to do with anything?

Those wacky goyim. <g>

Speaking of which -- let's look at Hawkeye for a moment: by all accounts a
non-Jewish dude from Maine who schooled in Maine and worked in Boston.

Yet, he makes heaps of New York references (about subways and street corners
and sandwiches and such), and drops Yiddish ("tuchus" comes to mind) in
conversation.

Is our BF Pierce just worldly, or what?

I don't know why Hefner was mentioned since he was not part of the Mash
movie or series but as long as he's mentioned let's make the most of it.
Well, that early episode involving Jack Soo as a guy who runs a black
market and desires Henry's 100 year old desk. Soo was very good in the
role but I think that part would have been perfect for Hugh Hefner as an
american businessman out in Korea doing a little swindling and
prostitution ringing on the side. When Trap and Hawk go to see Hughey
down in Seoul seated at his plain desk is Hefner. Seated on his desk are
two hot Korean babes. One giving Hughey a manicure ,the other holding
his scotch'nsoda drink. And behind Hefner's chair is a tall Korean dish
rubbing his shoulders. Imagine the Radar possibilities later when Huey
and co. invade Henry's office.

(Personally I'm scared . I don't know who those girls I'm mentally
imagining surrounding the Playboy mogul even are!)

My mother's maiden name is Simon. She's German, although there are several
famous Simons that are Jewish.

And this has what to do with any discussion going on here?
And when was Hefner on MASH?
As one of the decendents myself, I wonder why this thread.

--Allan Arbus is Jewish. Don't know about the other two. Presumably, Roy
Goldman, who played a character of the same name, is also Jewish.
Finally, I seem to remember reading somewhere that Sorrell Booke (General
Barker in a couple of episodes) is also Jewish (despite the "Boss Hogg"
image he conjures up).

I'm from Sweden and "Bratsburg" doesn't look Swedish to me, at least not
with that spelling. I know of a small village in northern Sweden called
Brattfors, though.
"-burg" is definitely a German ending while the Scandinavian equivalent
(meaning "castle, fortress") is "-borg" (as Björn Borg). The common use of
"-borg" is in the names of towns and villages (note that "Gothenburg" is the
English name of "Göteborg"). However, there has always been a strong German
influence in Scandinavia, which may explain a German name on a Scandinavian
family.
