How is 7 almost twice as long as 3?
LOL... I wondered that, myself, since 7 is MORE than double 3! I guess
the columnist couldn't count? ;-)

Maybe it has to do with the length of the seasons... If Pernell was
Trapper for the seasons 1979-1980, 1980-81, 1981-82, 1982-83, 1983-84,
1985-86, then that's six years. And if the seasons were shorter (ie.
less episodes) maybe that's how they got the number.
Of course, they could be wrong, too :)

MASH

1980-81 22 (4 held over to 1981-82)
1981-82 22 (1 held over to 1982-83)
1982-83 22 (1 held over to 1983-84)
1983-84 22 (1 held over to 1984-85)
1984-85 22
1985-86 19
Total: 151 hours
Number of seasons: TJMD = MASH x 2.33
Number of episodes: TJMD = MASH x 2.09
Number of hours: TJMD = MASH x 4.19
No matter how you look at it PR played the part more than twice as long
as WR.

RIP Pernell.
You didn't look at all like Wayne Rogers, I never bought that it was the
same Trapper, but hey, you did a good job.
