Who noticed that in the "sniper" episode that radar runs around the compound
and back to the showers and his towel drops. he is naked on camera for a
second.

I logged on today to ask that exact question??!!! Guess you
beat me to it.

How did that ever get by the censors?? For television today
a naked butt is nothing new but that episode was filmed back
in the 70's. I didn't see until last year and I was
shocked...

There was also an episode where Hawkeye showed off his butt. I can't
remember which (episode that is) just no. Anyone?

I vaguely recall that it had to do whit a prank of some sort and he
has only a small item to cover himself up with and as he leaves the
messtent he shifts the item from his behind to his front.
Maybe from one of the earlier episodes as they are running in Norway
now.

That's the '90s. We're talking about the '70s and early '80s. Bare butts
on TV were not too common then.

I remember that one also. He used a mess tray to cover
himself but i don't recall why he was naked in the first
place...

Hawk was naked because he bet BJ that they could walk naked thru the camp and
people would pay no attention to them because no one cared; he was wrong; they
noticed.

He actually bet Trapper 50 bucks that people in camp were so preoccupied that
nobody would notice him cruising around naked.

I seem to recall a bit of a to-do when "NYPD Blue" showed that sort of
thing (after 10pm though). It was the Jimmy Smits character (also same
thing more recently with Rick Schroeder).

No, this was a first-year episode: he bet Trapper John.

You're right, it was Trapper; I stand corrected. Thanks.

WRONG. Hawkeye did walk naked into the mess tent, but through clever
props and camera angles, we don't see anything.

There was a much-later episode where Margaret hijacked BJ's and
Hawkeye's clothes from the shower, and she and the nurses hid in the
Swamp, waiting for the two streakers to return.

Hawkeye also got even at BJ by planting him and his bed in the nurses'
tent, without a stitch of clothing. A P.A. announcement of wounded
coerced him to back out of the tent with nothing but a pillow in front
of him, and the entire unit was waiting for him. "Proof positive that
behind every great man is a great behind," quipped Charles.

Margaret sorta-kinda showed off her derierre, in the episode where
Hawkeye mistakenly things BJ is pulling pranks on everyone. She shows a
huge hole in her shower robe and said that "things were very drafty."

Maybe it's cut by the US-networks? In Norway a few weeks ago the
episode ran and I remember it vividly. There is definitely a scene
showing the naked backside (including the butt) of Hawkeye leaving the
messtent. Since MASH is shown in Norway for the x'th time and recently
went from episode #261(or something) directly to #1 again I'm not sure
whether the scene is from the end of the series or the beginning.

Instances of flesh editing on MASH :

1 - Margaret giving Hawkeye the flu shot

2 - Hawkeye giving Margaret a shot of gamma globulin

3 - Numerous shower edits

4 - Margaret's bizarro pep-talk to a mess-tent full of apparently
topless nurses

5 - Marcia Strassman's lost towel

6 - Radar's distraction during the poker game in 'The Moose'

7 - Charles OR pantsing

8 - Hawkeye mentally undressing Lt. Dish

9 - Rob Morris obtaining Life
