Hawkeye, Trapper and BJ had no decorations, but Frank, Henry and Col.
Potter did.

Anyone care to enlighten me as to which medals the ribbons belong?

Be a little hard to ID without pictures But Col Potter has WWI and
WWII
service as well as A Purple Heart. along with his good conduct medal (
remember
an officer can't get one, only an enlisted man.) A WWI Victory medal, a
WWII Victory Medal

Frank and Henry may not have many unless they had WWII service. need
pics to really tell.
Here is a URL that show the ribbons, and links to the related medals.

BJ won a medal in one of the last episodes, BOMBSHELLS, when he cut the
rope from the chopper that almost saved a wounded soldier. I believe it
was a bronze star.

Frank had a puple heart for throwing his back out. Henry also likely had one
of these.

Yeah, I never thought about it either...I wonder if it would've been
specifically a purple heart his wife would've received...Is that the
only medal to award in cases like that?

Also, Frank never got his purple heart - Hawkeye stole it and gave it
to Walter (Ron Howard) for having his appendix taken out because he was
on the front lines.

And Frank had another purple heart in the episode THE KIDS because he
was cracking open an egg and got nervous (egg shell fragment). This was
also given away by Hawkeye.

Frank also got a purple heart for the shell (egg) fragment in his eye, but
Hawkeye also stole that one to give to the korean baby that was shot on his
"birthday".

I thought that Frank's purple heart was for "shell fragments" in
his eye. He got a piece of egg shell in his eye, one morning at
breakfast. Wasn't that the episode where they got the LIP,
pregnant, with abdominal wounds. The baby (in utero) had been
shot, as part of the wound.

He might have gotten two. Maybe he got one for shooting himself in the foot
too....?

frank threw his back out while dancing with margaret, and he was seen in
traction later in the episode. ron howard was in that ep too, and he
wanted a medal to give to that dumb bernice, and iirc the episode
ORIGINALLY ends with walter getting frank's medal but that scene was cut
from the FX rerun. similarly, bj gives his medal to a soldier as a
reward for getting his butt out in one piece.

<technicality>

Speaking of giving away medals, it doesn't make much sense to anyone
who's been in the military. The ribbon one gets after being awarded a
commendation or citation can be bought from a PX or issued through
quartermaster. Giving someone the ribbon does not erase the commendation
from the giver's record, nor does it transfer it to the receiver. So,
technically, Burns's record would reflect that he received two Purple
Hearts, regardless of Hawkeye having given them away. Similarly,
Walter's record would not include the Order of the Purple Heart (at
least not that instance). Same goes for BJ's commendation and the guy he
gave it to.

</technicality>

Okay then,
