Hi,
In the first few episodes of MASH, there is also another guy
in the swamp along with Frank, Hawk and Trapper. Is his name
Spearchucker? What was his profession? What happened to him?

Thanks.

'Spearchucker' Jones (Spearchucker was his football nickname ) was
one of the anesthesiologists, if I remember, correctly, as was the
Aussie with the bent nose, whose name I can't recall.

Both Jones, and the Aussie were sometimes seen performing surgery,
during times of heavy casualties.
A
Spearchucker was one of the characters in the original movie, and
carried on to the series. His character was omitted in the second
or third season.

Spearchucker Jones was a former football all-star, and he was a
Neurosurgoen (sp) for the 4077. As up top is right as it is.

Australian gas passer. A fair poker player. Who was the guy that played the
guitar all the time?

[stuff deleted]

The "Aussie anesthesiologist" (which really would end up being
anaesthesiologist) character's name was "Ugly John" (that he was!)

Hmm, I thought Jones was surgeon. The Aussie was Ugly John, indeed
an anesthesiologists.

Captain Salding I think. He probably has a tent of his own, and never
attents staff meetings! :)

Ugly John also had a tent of his own (or maybe he hung out with Capt. Salding).
Anyway, there were only the four surgeons in the Swamp, and Ugly John just
hung around a lot.

BTW, did Jones and John just disappear? Or is there a show were they leave.
Did anybody ever play the guitar in the series, or was the question just
referring to the movie? Because I thought that Tom Skerrat's character
played the guitar in the movie. Was he Trapper? It's been so long since
I've seen the movie, I can't remember who was who.

Skerritt played "Duke", the southern redneck who initially
objected to having Spearchucker bunk in the swamp and who
eventually took on Hot Lips after Burns went looney.

Trapper was played by Elliot Gould.

That was Capt. Spalding. He was played by Louden Wainwright III, Grandson
of Louden Wainwright, of Life Magazine, I believe.

You're right. In the beginning, the Swamprats were :
Hawkeye, Trapper, Burns, and Jones.

I don't remember who played the guitar in the movie. The only thing
I remember about Skerrit's chracter was him trying to sneak Houlahan
out of the swamp, when the guys returned from the 'seminars' in Tokyo.

Trapper was played by Elliot Gould, and Hawkeye, by Donald Sutherland.
Or was it the other way around?

No one played a guitar in the movie. Duke Forrest was a main chacter in
the book and movie. Tom Skerrit was Duke, Elliot Gould was Trapper, and
Donald Sutherland played Hawkeye.
