Farr vs Alda - Part II

"As I was reading Harry Morgan's IMDB page last night, I came across
one of his comments about Jamie Farr belting Alan Alda across the
mouth and that it was long overdue. Surprised, I then looked at the
pages of other MASH regulars and semi-regulars and there was Loretta
Switt saying the same thing, adding it was funny and that production
was delayed a day because Alda kept crying. Farr himself admitted
this. None of the others mentioned it.
Alda, on the other, said he won the fight because he was a big, tough
Italian from Brooklyn (no offence to Alda but I very much doubt if
"big" and "tough" apply either to him or his character) and that he
punched out Farr who kept crying afterward.
That was the first time I ever heard of this but it seems to explain
why Farr has bitterly criticized Alda for blocking a MASH reunion and
why, when Farr got to utter the very last phrase ever on the serie,
Alda stepped in as a writer and producer and gave himself the last
line.
It was also clear that Alda alienated a lot of his fellow regular
actors on the set. Wonder how many more malcontents there are out
there..."
The post came out the very day Elsig left us and so, it was quickly
forgotten and rightfully so; the tributes to Larry Gelbart were far
more important. Since then, however, I have read the discussions on
the IMDB board and found out that one member thought it hilarious to
add false statements to the actors' IMDB pages (I didn't even know you
could do that). The comments from Alda's and Farr's pages have since
been deleted but not so for Morgan's and Swit's.
It would appear I unintentionally mislead this NG; the fact that the
regulars here who commented on it all wrote that had never heard of
such a confrontation should have been a clue !

Well, I recall reading MS was quite famous for those. I also read Mike
Farrell *pretended* to beat up Gary Burghoff as a joke on Odgen-
Stiers. But it was reading the comments on the actors' IMDB pages that
fooled me ! I never thought some cretin with absolutely no life of his
own could freely add unchecked comments like that on IMDB pages.
Incidentally, while Farr's & Alda's comments concerning the fight were
removed Swit's and Morgan's were not.
