Who's the best actor/actress on MASH be honest, the best actor/actress not
your personal vavorite........

I have to say it's charles because he fit's the role of a snob so
perfectly but unlike Frank has witt, personallity and a sense of humor.
Frank also does a good job of being the actor you love to hate.

Good choice but for a bad reason. Don't you think they casted him for the
role because he fit it in the first place? Think about which actor is the
most versitile and does the best job of ACTING for a question like that
one. BTW: Charles is the CHARACTER not the ACTOR, AFAIK there's no
"Charles" who played a regular on the show, so I'll assume you mean the
actor who played Charles. :) Anyway, to answer the question though... I'd
say it's a really tough call but, though most people will probably say
Alan Alda, I'd have to say either Gary Burgoff, Loretta Switt or Harry
Morgan.

.. Yeah, Loretta's pretty good - and beautiful.

But who calls himself MASH-O-maniac and can't spell Loretta's second name
correctly, eh? It has been, it is and it will be SWIT - just 1 L.

I - of course - meant "there's only 1 T in Swit" ...
Sorry!

I never called myself "MASH-O-maniac" and you're telling me there's only
1 L in SWIT? You're insane, there are at least 15 L's in SWIT and a
couple of X's too, damnit!

I think that Harry Morgan does a great job in the show. Colonel Potter
is a
credible commander, and also a good friend with a great sense of humor
(for
example in the episode 'April Fools', one of my favorites). My opinion
is that
Harry Morgan fits perfect into this role.

A few weeks ago someone in this newsgroup (or was it in de.alt.tv.mash?)
complained about Potter being always the same. At the age of 62 (Potters
age
in the episode 'Pressure Points') I think that's normal.

I can't hide it, Potter is my favorite character, certainly also because
of the great actor that plays him.

I would say B J. He was good at playing the family man. Dedicated to his wife
and daughter even though they were miles away.

I definitley agree that Alan Alda was the best. If he had left the show
it just would not have been the same. Really, though, everyone was good.

It is not a question of Alan Alda being the best. As the show went on
through the years, MASH became more and more centered on the Hawkeye
character as Alan Alda grew in power behind the scenes. If Hawkeye
had been killed off, the series likely would have died too.

He was good but, I don't like his character through the whole series. From
the time when the show began to the time when it ended his character changed
a great deal.

But I do agree that the show wouldn't have been the same without him.

I just saw the movie last week and from what I saw of it (only watched the 1st
hour) I decided that I really liked the TV series better. After watching
Alan Alda play Hawkeye all during the series, I really couldn't get used
to Donald Sutherland playing hin. Hawkeye is one of my big favorites characterson the show, but my second favorite would have to be BJ. He was hjust as funny
as Hawk, plus he wasn't his constant sidekick like Trapper was. He could
actually stand out alone without Hawkeye (which he did several times.....
Trapper always seemed to have Hawkeye hanging around in the shadows and never
really had an episode where he stood alone).
