Howdy!
I'm not sure how much Pat Morita starred in before MASH. The only
other thing I know him from is, of course, the Karate Kid movies (and a
few toothpaste commercials.) From what I know, you can count him as one
of the people who became a star after MASH. Does anyone else remember
more about his character? When I checked through the character list I
didn't see him mentioned, but I remember him playing quite a few poker
hands with everybody in The Swamp. His character always amused me.
Just spouting my opinions to anyone who will read 'em...

He was also a regular on Happy Days - the diner owner. Was his name Al?
I forget - but I rememember him using a stereotype accent and messing up
English words all the time.

The chief character (they may have snuck him in elsewhere, a la Harry
Morgan as Gen. Steele, then years later as Col. Potter) was Col. Pak
"R.O.K." Memorable lines (possibly all from the same episode):

(after arriving several hours early for a "conference" [poker game]
"Radar, have a nurse wake me...a little at a time."

(after Radar reveals he hit a "local" with a jeep) "Radar, is this a
little man, anywhere from 70 to 200 years old? Looks like he fell off a
charm bracelet?"

(after being asked if he 'drew the straight?' in the poker game) "Did I
draw the straight? Did I draw the straight? [begins tossing his 'hand'
onto the table as he names the cards] Two, Three, Four, Five.....Nine."

Pat Morita played Arnold. Al was the other guy that owned the
restaurant later in the series.

I also remember him doing a HILARIOUS character on at least one episode of
"Welcome Back Kotter". He played a Mr. Takahashi. The character Epstein
called him called him "Mr. Takahashish" (If you need an explanation, go
check out alt.drugs)

Arnold. Yes, he named the diner after himself.

In one episode, Richie visited some self-defence classes, held in Arnold's,
by Master Takihashi. Of course, this turns out to be Arnold.

("So, why did you call the place `Arnold's'?"
"Have you any idea how many letters there are in `Takihashi'?")

Bionic Tapeworm, who disclaims thus: "You leave my employer out of this",
and deliberately mentions Turkey, Carasso, Lucifer, D&D and Communism
in his signature just to annoy those people who grep for such things
