I apologize if these are FAQ's, but they have been bugging me for the longest
time:

1. Why do the bloody helicopters fly backwards in the opening credits of the
show? At least that is what they appear to do in the first two cuts....then in
the third, when landing, they are flying forward again. Is my perception
totally off?

2. What is the name of the person doing the announcements at the 4077th? Just
curious (clearly Radar does some, but I mean the usual "incoming wounded"
announcements).

3. Why Loudon Wainwright III (sp?)? I like his folk music a lot, but just
wondered what his connection was to the show - was he a particular favorite of
the producers/directors?

4. Where does one find the FAQ? I don't think I've seen it posted here in the
month or so I've been following the group.

Thanks,
Forbin

That's just an optical illusion as the filming must have been done by
another helicopter passing by.

When Loudon was discussed some months ago I seem to remember Elsig writing
appreciating about him, and the Groucho Marx (Spaulding/Spalding)-connection
may support this. My guess is that mr Gelbart liked Loudon - among all his
other qualities Larry Gelbart is also a music lover!

Or the film being run backward?

I'm pretty sure that the scene are shot by a third helicopter at a higher
speed, approaching from the rear and then flying beside and pass the visible
helicopters. Why would they run the film backwards?

Notice how the camera is panning funny, it's just an optical illusion
created by this, the other helicopter, and the mountains in the background
moving. It really does look wierd though.

Thanks, Stratocat - that makes it clearer. The mountains do give it away....

Ya if you're a mash fanatic it's pretty sweet.

I just have to say thanks for knowing that other people had that backward
helicopter perception too. For years I thought it was only me!
