I dunno...is he Harry's Morgan's son, and played Col. Potter's son-in-law
on the show?

George Morgan played Father Mulchay in the pilot.
William Christopher didn't start until the second episode.

Neither do I, but I do know that he was in the first show. However, I saw
that show a very long time ago and don't know anymore who the guestactors
were.

What is the reason George Morgan played Father Mulcahy in the pilot
episode, and William Christopher from episode 3 till the very end?

I've never seen the reason documented; but it's not infrequent that parts
are recast between pilot and series.

Possible reasons are:
Morgan wasn't available any more when the series went into producton.
Morgan wasn't liked in the part and was let go.
Morgan wasn't like personally and was let go. (This, according to
William Shatner's book STAR TREK MEMORIES, is sort of why Jeffrey Hunter
lost the part of the ship's captain after the first pilot was shot: people
were sick of his wife's bossiness.)

But this is all pure speculation.

I read before that Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynold just didn't feel that George
Morgan was right for the role. I don't remember where I read it at though.

Well then Larry, how did you come to choose William Christopher?

George Morgan was the first Fr. Mulchaey in the very early episodes,
William Christopher is listed in the credits of the 9th episode. I believe
the producers did not feel that he was right for the part and cast
Christopher very early on.

William Christopher auditioned for the role but instead of reading his lines,he improvised his scene. He blew the pilot episode but was back when the character finally spoke some lines in episode 3.I wish I could read George Morgan's take on loosing such a fantastic role.
