Creators of Lost: “One will give all the answers”
The creators of Lost, accompanied by Evangeline Lilly (Kate) and Michael
Emerson (worrying it Ben) were in Paris this weekend within the framework
of the festival Jules Verne. They presented to the fans the first episode
of season 5, new in France. We met them at the time of a press conference,
Saturday morning in Fouquet' S. Carlton CUSE and Damon Lindelof, authors
and executive producers, speak about Lost, their work with the daily
newspaper, of the voyages in the time which enamels season 5 (jumps in the
past, jumps in the future…). The tandem also makes a point of reassuring
the televiewers: all the intrigues will be solved at the end of the season
6, which will be the last.
Do you know since the beginning where you want to come from there in the
resolution of the intrigue?
Damon Lindelof: When the pilot was written, it was not known if Lost would
have success, if the series would last 13 hours or 130, and if one could
give the answers to the enigmas of the type of the polar bear, or of the
French voice which speaks in the walkie-talkie (in German in the VF,
note). ABC was convinced (diffusion in the United States, note) that if
one did not give all the answers one day, the public would be in anger.
When they agreed to stop at six seasons, one was very content. Two years
ago, one thus decided which would be the end. The answers will be given.
Evangeline Lilly intervenes: Not, they is false, they blaguent, they do
not know anything the whole! (laughter)
J.J. Is Abrams, the creator of Lost, still implied in the manufacture of
Lost?
Carlton CUSE: Not, J.J left the series right after the pilot, to work on
Mission impossible. It is very occupied with the cinema, and it has its
series, Fringe, on Fox.
Season 5 abounds in voyages in time. Had you envisaged them as of the
beginning, or this idea came on the way?
Damon Lindelof: It was known that would become part of the series at one
time. In season 2, Sayid, while testing a radio, falls on music the
Forties. It was an index of the voyages in time to come. The progression
of the series claimed it. It is a way of giving answers to step badly of
stories, to reconsider the details of the last history.
What means letters LOST? Certain fans speak about “Leap Out Sacred
Territory” (translation: “to escape from a crowned territory”). Which is
the share of crowned in the series?
Damon Lindelhof: The show is very influenced by spirituality, the
religion. Carlton is catholic, me, my mother is Jewish and my atheistic
father. The character of Locke, for example, known as always “the island
asks me to do it”. He speaks about God.
Do you read forums Internet devoted to Lost? Do you take in account what
the fans write there?
Damon Lindelhof: We read them, but the series is written so much in
advance compared to the diffusion… At the time of season 1, one had
already written thirteen hours of episodes before even the diffusion of
the first. One rather tries to anticipate the reactions of the fans.
How are you distributed the work of writing?
Carlton CUSE: It is very collaboratif. On television American, one likes
to work in team. We are eight scenario writers in all. One puts oneself in
a room, one builds the intrigues together on large tables. It is the
funniest part of the job. Then, with Damon, one returns there unceasingly,
because one put the bar very high. We are very demanding one towards the
other.
Season 5 of Lost should be diffused this summer on TF1.
Maybe not all of them, but Ms. Lillie, definitely.
You're not being bitchy, I agree, the translations are a little gibberish,
but until we get a real human translation, that's the best I can do since
I do not speak French.
Viva le Wee Wee !
Wow ! She's even more charming speaking in french...

Speaking of the article, is there a good chance they will even adress things
like the long forgotten Libby's backstory, and how could they manage to do
that now ?
