My question is...did Jack and Kate REALLY hook up at the end? I saw Kate
express her love for Jack and tell him how much she missed him, but didn't
Jack sort of turn away and not respond directly? Later, when they enter the
church, there is hand holding and they do sit together with big smiles, but
Jack really doesn't show the same kind of affection we see between (for
example) Juliet and Sawyer or Penny and Desmond. He seems much more
interested in just appreciating the moment with all his friends together.
Yes, I know he declared his love for Kate when they were actually on the
island, but I don't think he ever does that in the purgatory scenes. He
seems much more emotionally connected to his father than anyone else.
For me, a disappointment in the finale was Jack's failure to more overtly
embrace Kate at the end (both literally and otherwise) as the true love of
his life. Am I just misreading that?
Yeah. I really think you are. Besides...Jack and Kate "hooked up" for a
while after the return of the Oceanic 6. You might remember they seemed to
be living together before drifting apart as Jack descended into his despair
at having left the island.

I do remember Jack and Kate "hooking up" after they got off the island the
first time, and it's also quite clear they declared their love for one
another in their final moments on the island before Kate left for the
airplane. My comments relate just to their actions in the sideways world
when they both realized what was happening. Kate acted excited and in love
with Jack, whereas Jack seemed a but more reserved with her. He never said
he loved her and he never really showed the kind of affection for her that
we saw in other couples. Whether that was Fox's choice as an actor or he
was told to play it that way, I'm not sure - I just expected more excitement
on Jack's part at being with Kate.
well he did just regain his memory of staggering into the bamboo field
and dying in excruciating pain (assumed). As the very last memory
regained, I would think he might be still coping with that as something
that, to his perspective, just happened. And after having that thrust
upon him, his father basically says "hey schmuck - you're quite dead."
"and oh yeah- all your friends are throwing you a party in the next
room, where they are all acting kinda goofy. Happy deathday, son".
Jack might have felt a little overwhelmed.
Still, did they hook up in the afterlife? I couldn't tell.
Jack died quickly while Kate probably missed him for many years before
she finally died.
I thought I just answered that

That's a great point which I hadn't thought about.
You just made the case that Jack was overwhelmed. That's no answer.
