-The X-Files predicted 9/11; Lost reacted to it.
-The X-Files tackled real-world politics: It warned about government
wiretaps, rogue agencies and the erosion of civil liberties long before
terms like "rendition" and "waterboarding" became part of the popular
lexicon.
Lost does paranoia very well, and it seems likely that corporate
malfeasance and globalization will appear in Lost's crosshairs before the
series is over in 2010. Still, big government seems a bigger target than
big corporations, though I'm sure the Noam Chomsky/Ralph Nader crowd would
beg to differ.

"Listen," (Abrams)said. "I would wish The X-Files on my best friend. It
was one of the greatest series in the history of television, and we should
be so lucky to be mentioned in the same breath."
Later, in the hotel hallway, Abrams and I had a private chat in passing.
Abrams said he had everything about Lost's pilot episode worked out to a T
-- where the story was coming from, and how it would play out in the end.
Even so, he said, he admired The X-Files' ability to shift on its feet and
adapt to the changing mood of the times. In the end, The X-Files stayed
true to itself, Abrams insisted. When you tap into the zeitgeist that
deeply, it's hard to find your way out in a way that satisfies everyone.

Here is a weird 'X-Files vs Lost' connection:
There's a local Vancouver connection between The X-Files and Lost that has
somehow escaped attention — and yet it's fascinating, just the same.
The two series, each wonderful in its own way, share a cinematographer:
New Zealand-born Canadian citizen and former Vancouver resident John
Bartley.
http://lostpedia.com/wiki/John_Bartley
Bartley was the lead cameraman on The X-Files's first three seasons, in
Vancouver. He shot 62 episodes overall, and won an Emmy in 1996 for the
third-season episode "Grotesque," about murderous gargoyles and a
seriously weird art class.
Bartley has since photographed 28 episodes of Lost, on the North Shore of
Oahu in Hawaii. Lost is an intricate, complicated production — as you can
imagine — and so it rotates a trio of cinematographers, soit can meet its
production deadlines.
That probably explains why he's (or at least with his name on it since
he's supposedly doing about 50,000 projects at the same time) in the
process of making an "X-files" clone show. :-)
No ones star rises forever. When you're rising, you must take advantage of
the star status.
Or in the words of Jerry Reed, "When you're hot, you're hot. When you're
not, you're not"
Zeitgeist means "the spirit of the age", "time spirit". It describes the
intellectual and cultural climate of an era.
