We tried pretty hard to figure out the relevance of the choice of comic book shown by Mr. Eyeliner (Batmanuel, I forgot his character name on "Lost") to ostensibly the young Locke as one of the items that was possibly his. Turns out the contents of that issue of "Mystery Tales", "The Hidden Land", was not the clue. Rather, it was the title and the picture on the cover.
"Mystery Tales" -- "Tales of Mystery", from "Tales of Terror and Mystery" by A.C. Doyle, which included "The Lost Special" (and "The Man with the Watches"). And the terror on the guy's face as he looked out the window from the train must've matched that of M. Caratal in "The Lost Special" when he realized his train had been hijacked.
