"Too long"?
Last nite's episode was the first time Ethan's name has been mentioned
in--OK, trivia question: Before last nite's episode, when was the last
time Ethan's name was mentioned on the show?

It hasn't been that long. He was in the first 3 episodes this season, and
with all the breaks and very short amount of time elapsing within this
season, it's been about 6 days (Jack said they've been there 50 days, and
Locke told Desmond they'd been there 44 days).
They wanted you to remember Desmond for the future, but they don't need
to talk about him, involve him with their plans, or look for him. He'll
turn up or they'll do whatever when he figures into some future plot.
Maybe he'll find Cindy and bring her back with him since the world didn't
explode since he'd run away. Don't worry about Desmond.
Desmond is kinda busy in LA right now.
Or soon will be.
