Dear FOLCs,

Being me, I like to do surveys and stuff like that. And, since I didn't
get a very good response to my "What's your opinion of BGDF?" one (I
still need 20 votes, BTW), I thought this one would be more interesting.

Maybe it's been done. Maybe not. Well, I know it's always asked when
someone from L&C goes on AOL. But humour me. If *YOU* could have one
superpower, what would it be, and why? Now, you know the regular
superpowers: flying, supersmell, superhearing, x-ray vision, heat vision,
etc., so don't make up any, or use things that other superheroes contain.
This is restricted to Superman's powers.

You can send me your votes at Bla...@cadvision.com

BTW, if you have *not* voted for BGDF, send me your opinions. What did
you think:

1). I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!
2). It was a GREAT ep!
3). It was a normal ep.
4). The clone wedding was better (i.e. not that great).
5). I hated it.

Sincerely,
Gina =)

On the subject of surveys, I'd like to tell you about the one I'm holding
for the 5 people that like L&C at my school. =) I'd like to know what you
think is the WAFFiest ep, the ep with the best Villain-plot, the ep that
you think is the most scientifically correct/believable(there's a glance in
your direction, Brad Ferguson, when I say that. =), and the one with the
most action. In addition to that, I'd also like to know which ep was the
LEAST WAFFy, and et cedera.

You can send your answers to gf...@unix.dsoe.com in this layout:

WAFFiest:
Least WAFFiest:

Best Villain-plot ep:
Worst Villain-plot ep:

Most scientifically believable:
Least scientifically believable:

Thanx.

Who, me? Do I ever have opinions?

I'm afraid I don't really know what WAFFy means, although I've seen the
acronym here numerous times. If you're talking about emotional impact, I
thought the ending of the second Tempus ep, in which Superman is left
alone on that alternate Earth with no parents, Lois, or even Clark, was
quite moving. He'd been given this burden, and now he was being left to
shoulder it alone. It was quite good.

I also don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of all the episodes, and I'm
sure I'm forgetting something, but I thought the most scientifically valid
one (and this is from a pretty darn short list) was the one about the
asteroid near-collision -- the remake of "Panic in the Sky." There wasn't
too much they could have gotten wrong there, though. The thing is coming
in, and either it hits us or it doesn't.

Best villain has been Tempus, in his first appearance. Great plot there,
too. However, casting Callan and Jones as the younger Kents in that ep
was ludicrous. K almost brought it off, but poor Eddie looked like a
refugee from the Hair Club for Men.

Many of these episodes don't have any sustained action at all, so it's
hard to pick one out based on that.

My own favorite category is one I made up: The Episode I Didn't Expect to
Like but Liked Very Much. In this series, so far, it's the one about the
ninjas. One of my faves.

I'm afraid that the only one of his powers I'd like is super speed.
When I went in for the Legion of Super Heroes tryouts (as Estimate Boy),
they gave me an old flight belt as consolation, so I've got the flight
already.

All the really cool superpowers are ones other people have, like that
Brotherhood of Dada member in _Doom Patrol_ who has every super
power you *can't* think of. Or Indelible Black Magic Marker Man, who,
upon vanquishing his foes, draws a moustache on them that they can
never wash away. Flex Mentallo (currently in his own must-read 4 part
miniseries from Vertigo) has a fabulous Hero of the Beach halo. Then
there's my favorite Legionnaire, Chemical King, who can advance any
element up or down its half-life span or such. Another great LSHer
(Substitute) was Infectious Lass, who could make people sick. And
who could forget Matter-Eater Lad, or his Bismollian rival, Calorie
Queen?

Metamorpho, the Metal Men, Plas, Eclipso, Rebis, the Creeper, Mr. A,
the Odd Man, Shade...actually, Superman's powers get a little dull
in comparison to his fellows'!

Expect the unexpected.

Being a doctor, I'd love to have Xray vision. Microscopic vision would be next,
followed by flying.

I'd pick flying, but you'd have to be invulnerable to fly -- winds would
buffet you, temperatures and atmospheric pressure at altitude would be too
low to survive, friction would get you, landings would be rather rough,
and there is always the possibility of collision with a mountain or the
U.S. Capitol Building.

Superstrength and superspeed also require invulnerability; you'd destroy
your own body while using them. So would heat vision -- your eyes would
have to be invulnerable to use it. (X-ray vision might be dangerous, too,
if X-rays are involved.) Microscopic vision sounds safe, as does
super-hearing -- but what good are they, really? There are microscopes
and sensitive microphones, if you need them.

Invulnerability would probably be the most useful superpower, since it
does you no harm and can do you a great deal of good. You could actually
do some good with it, too -- disarm felons, fly places on Valujet,
whatever, all without risk to you or anyone around you.

So I vote for invulnerability.
