I would assume that the writer's will explain Clark's absence the same way
they tried to the last time, when Superman was banned from Metropolis. I
don't know what the name of the show was, but Superman was forced to
leave Met. because of some evil scheme to make him look bad. Clark was
so "downhearted" that he decided to leave Metropolis. Could this happen
again? The writer's might say that he left when he was out covering the
reaction. Any thoughts?

Well, they (Lois and Mom and Dad) can't say he's out on assignment, 'cause then Perry
would have to be in on the whole *secret*.

I was wondering about that great final scene when Lois suddenly falls apart and says "I
shouldn't have let him go." Maybe Metropolis is a better place than anywhere around
here, but had she said that near any of our present-day reporters, someone from, say the
Enquirer, you know it would be plastered all over the front page of the tabloid as "Planet's
Star Reporter Carrying on Secret Affair With Alien" or some such nonsense.

I did love Dad Kent's response to her, beginning with "Dearest Lois, a love... [I've forgotten
the rest, but it was a major WAFF for me :-)]

Waiting with high hopes for next season and looking forward to this summer's re-runs.....

I think we're all jumping the gun on this one. After all, Clark's not
"missing" yet.

I'm sure the writers will resolve this in the season opener (yeah, I
know, I have a lot more faith in the writers than some people on this
newsgroup!). Personally, I'd like to see the following:

Jonathan and Martha camp out in CK's apartment while Lois grieves at the
Planet. Jimmy realizes that CK hasn't shown up for work that morning and
asks Lois where he is.

LL: I don't know, Jimmy. I haven't seen him since yesterday.
PW: <noticing how upset Lois is> Lois, darlin', why don't we talk this
over in my office. <he escorts her to his office> Sit down and tell me
all about it.
LL: I don't know where to start. It's just too hard....
PW: He'll be back, Lois. He's always come back before.
LL: Not this time....
PW: I know it's a long way, Lois, but I'm sure he'll make it back.
LL: <looks at Perry in confusion> What do you mean, Chief?
PW: He'll do what he has to on New Krypton, but I'm sure he'll come back
as soon as he can.
LL: What are you talking about?
PW: Darlin', I know about Clark. You know...<draws an "S" on his chest>
LL: But how?
PW: Lois, they didn't make me the editor of a great metropolitan
newspaper 'cause I look good in a tux. I put two and two together. The
way you and Clark acted, the way you and Superman acted, how Clark always
disappeared when there was a crisis and came back with some cockamamey
excuse--a craving for a double latte, I mean, please!!
LL: You haven't told anyone, have you?
PW: Of course not. I figure if you two want it to be a secret, that's
your business. But if we're going to keep up the subterfuge, we've got to
figure out a good cover.
LL: Like what?
PW: <thinking> We'll say he had to go undercover. We'll tell people that
he's working on a story of some government conspiracy. People always
believe stuff like that.
LL: What about me? Won't they wonder why I didn't go with him?
PW: <thinking some more> We could say that the two of you had a major
blowup about how upset you were when Superman left. We've all seen how
jealous Clark gets--Scardino, Dr. Dieter, that Irish fellow who tried to
kill you....
LL: It could work. And hopefully it won't be for too long.
PW: That's the spirit. Now get back to work. I've only got half of Lane
and Kent now--you'll have to work twice as hard!
LL: Thanks, Perry. You're the greatest!! <hugs Perry>

Laugh! That was great! I like that idea. I think he knows, too. Perry, I
mean. I mean, I've seen him exchange glances with Jimmy when Lois goes
off with Superman (WHALTTA being the obvious one).

Maybe they both know...

Sincerely,
Gina Blank =)

Great idea. It covers alot of problems and I figure Perry's known
about Clark/Superman for some time now. Lois and Clark could probably
use another excuse source since thier's are getting pretty lame.

Perry knowing would certainly be good for his charactor, after some of
the mistakes the 'old newshound' has made lately, but wouldn't it be
better if Jimmy finds out first? Wouldn't we all enjoy watching him
cough up lame excuses for Clark, and even Lois, disappearing?

Then, when finally they reveal that Perry knows, he can kid them ALL
about thier lack of creativity.
