I was watching an SVU rerun tonight. It was said that in New York state
that adult incest was only an E felony!

while a crime against nature it really shouldn't be a civil crime at all.

What does "a crime against nature" mean? Does "nature" have courts
where you can be tried?

What if the incestuous couple reproduces and their child has severe
birth defects? Should they be punished for that? If they should,
should every couple, incestuous or not, be required to under go
eugenics counseling?

On a related subject, because not every incestuous couple will have
offspring, or some like Mackenzie Phillips will get abortions, should
we punish people for DUI, or should we only punish people for the
accidents and damages they cause?

the crime against nature is punished by nature, the deformed baby you
mentioned.
otherwise its nobodies affair.
its icky. but should not be criminal.
the same with polygamy. if people want to live that way, power to them.

as for John Phillips, he was always known as a dirtbag. but if he was going
to hit on a daughter he'd have been better advised to go after the serious
babe Chyna and not the distressingly ugly McKenzie.

If you can't marry them then you shouldn't being having sex with them.

Don't have sex with anyone you can't legally marry!

So if was legally ok to marry one's close blood relatives you'd be ok
with that?

The Church can give a dispensation for first cousins to marry and for
uncle and niece to marry. Who am I to question Holy Mother Church?

Oh thats news to me, much as I know back in earlier times it was very
common for first cousins to marry, but uncle and niece, I don't think so.

Who are you to question? So you just go alone blindly?

That was also very common among royal families back when, that why they
had such thin blood etc

Heres an interesting case lets say you never met your cousin (funny how
thats the only relative that doesn't say which sex they are)or haven't
seen them in many years.

One day you meet a person online, in a singles bar whatever and you have
sex and its your cousin. Need I say more?

What you said was "Don't have sex with anyone you can't legally
marry!"

It's not clear to me how a dispensation from the church is a legal
ruling. So I'm sorry, but I don't think that your answer is
responsive.

> Who am I to question Holy Mother Church?

Your position didn't say anything about the church ruling on anything.
So it's not clear to me how this is relevant to your statement about
the relation (if I may use that word) between the legality of marriage
and the appropriateness of having sex with a particular individual.

However, who are you to not question "Holy Mother Church?"

Regarding uncle / niece marriage ---> King Ferdinand VII of Spain was
married four times. The first three wives died and no issue. His last
wife who bore him two daughters was his niece Maria Cristina of Naples.

Well there's a compelling argument for making gay marriage legal.

It's legal in California to marry one's cousin. Years back I had a
coworker who related that when she and her boyfriend went to get their
marriage license that she saw a sign that said that first cousin
marriage was now legal.

I asked her if it gave her pause for thought. Afterall she had more
marital options now. ;-))))

First cousin marriage didn't seem to cause any problems for Queen
Victoria and Prince Albert.

I understand that first cousins marriage is popular in Islam so as to
keep the property within the family.

In an age where birth control and abortion are available I don't
consider it to be my business and I frankly don't care.

I don't much care about these people either http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/6424937.stm

If you're waiting for David/Amicus to answer a question you may have a
long wait. IMO he avoids answering questions. I wonder why. Maybe
he needs someone to tell him what the answer is before he can answer.

I'm old fashioned in thinking that sex belongs in marriage.

Like years back I had a coworker who brought in her newborn grandchild
to show off. Without thinking the first thing I said to her was "I
didn't know your son got married?". She replied "He didn't".

Maybe the government shouldn't be involved in these decisions at all.

Divorce or its analog could be handled as a contract issue.

If you had thought about it, would that have involved questions
directed toward your church?

I'm surprised he had the ability to do anything but donate the sperm
twice a week. Obviously it was more than easy at the beginning, but
as the years go by, one would think he'd be slower.

Hasn't that been a theme for an L&O episode, likely SVU? I seem to recall
an episode where there were siblings that got together when they
discovered they had a common father, a sperm donor.

Of course, the concept of siblings dating is a staple of tv shows,
specifically soap operas. They are unaware that they are related, and
then trouble comes up when the reveal happens after they are happily in
love.
