As noted earlier on Monday, Diane Neal will be Stephanie
March's replacement on Special Victims Unit, however, that transition
won't take place until likely sometime in November, since Stephanie is
in the first four episodes for next season that have already been
filmed.
Given that is the case, coupled with Dick Wolf already noting
he wants Stephanie to reprise Alex from time-to-time, I'm asking here
how would you like Alex to exit from SVU? My choice would be to do a
crossover with the original Law and Order where Alex goes overboard on
a case and is fired by Arthur Branch, with Jack and Serena then taking
over prosecuting duties on the original "L & O" (with "SVU" now airing
on Tuesdays, this makes the most sense since they could air on
back-to-back nights).
How do you think they should have Alex exit?

I don't think that would make sense; for most DAs, being fired from the job
(as opposed to leaving voluntarily and amicably) will be extremely damaging for
their careers overall even outside the prosecutorial field.
I'd rather see that Cabot gets a promotion to EADA in a different department
than sex crimes. She, then, can come back at times to deal with cases that she
already had some involvement in.
There's only one EADA in the DA's office. Though in the real world, it's
more of an administrative, run-the-office position and the EADA doesn't
really try cases.
If Cabot was promoted, it would probably be to the chief or deputy chief
of the sex crimes unit or domestic violence bureau or something like that,
I would think - Judith Light's position, when she was on for a few
episodes last season.

I know that's the case in real life -- but that's not the way the DA's office
operates in the L&O universe. In the L&O universe, it has already been
established that Stone and McCoy were EADAs *at the same time* and were trying
cases at the same time. Indeed, the "executive committee" meeting seen a few
seasons ago was heavily implied as a committee of the EADAs. Given the fact
that L&O considers EADAs the more experienced trial prosecutors, it's not
inconsistent to write Cabot out as having been promoted.
I'd like for her to be promoted to EADA and replace McCoy. Time for him to
go, his ethics are appaling, his methods were indirectly responsible for the
death of several defendents or witnesses, not to mention sleeping with
subordinates. Stone resigned after he badgered a witness to testify who was
shot post-verdict while in protective custody.

Forgive an ignorant Australian, I don't know much about the US Legal system, and
even if the L&O series(including the two spinoff series) actually portray it 100%
accurately, but aren't the District Attoreys elected by the people? or are they
appointed by the state/city/province.....? So who in effect would terminate
their employment? I suppose their continual appointment also depends on the
convictions they get as well?.
From a fictional TV series, I suppose they can have A.D.A. Alex leave however
they like. I think Stephanie March makes a good ADA, as did Angie Harmon in the
other series.

In the U.S., district attorneys (DAs) are elected by the people.
However, _assistant_ district attorneys (ADAs) are hired by the
district attorneys. ADAs do not have fixed terms of employment, and
thus can be terminated by the DA.
In the L&O universe, Adam Schiff was and Arthur Branch is the district
attorney. they were elected. Nora Lewin was also a district attorney,
but she was appointed to fill Schiff's unexpired term.
Robinette, Kincaid, Ross, Carmichael, Cabot et al. are/were ADAs. None
have been fired, but it was/is possible.

safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Benjamin Franklin)
Yes they are. But Cabot isn't a District Attorney. She's an Assistant D.A.
and they are appointed and assigned by the elected District Attorney.
There is a way to do this while creating the single biggest fan event
ever in the history of all televised humanity. What the writers
obviously need to do is write a three-part crossover of SVU, Charmed,
and the Daytona 500. Alex Cabot would be entering court one day when
suddenly the Charmed sisters pop in and tell them that they need her.
The next thing you know, they're in a luxury suite at a NASCAR race
listening to negotiations between NBC execs and...

ROFL!!!!! That actually hurts it's so good!

Then the SVU team decides that Goran is really annoying,
and so Ice-T or Cube, or whatever roughs him up and shoots him.
So what you think about that?
[Actually, SVU is my favorite, then CI. I hardly watch
the original series since SVU and CI.]
