I have to say it was really nice for some one to just answer this question
without flaming the person because they missed a post (or have never been here
before). Especially in light of recent posts. It's nice to see things are
settling down again.

Wow, I haven't been called nice in a long time.
Please pass this info onto the other newsgroups I visit. :)

OK, so as not to disappoint you or cause some anomaly on Usenet - lets at least
flame The King, (not you), for his IDIOTIC SIMPLISTIC answers!!!!!
1. It was a little more than a *horrifying day* - Stone spent many of those. He
quit the DA's office because of his own guilt. He intimidated a witness to testify
against her will and her testimony resulted in her being killed by *the mob*. That
was too much for him to accept so he resigned.
2. There was NO reference to Claire's being *hospitalized for a long time*. What
comic book have you been reading King-boy? It is clear to any intelligent viewer
that Claire died in the accident. And if she had not been preoccupied by the
execution, her affair with McCoy, and her relationship with her step-father, she
may have seen it coming!
Tracey, - I hope that helps you accept news:alt.tv.law-and-order as an
irresponsible flame ridden newsgroup and not some intellectual backwater of
politeness and sanity. :-)
<I think I will have to work on my flames a bit more - this seems far too tame -
BTW Canada sucks too - how's that?>

**See "Aftershock" ... the final episode of the '96 season ... it's the
one that starts everyone off poised to witness an execution they all
played a role in making a reality. Everyone does a superb job behaving
way out of character, so it's worth sifting through the A&E re-runs to
seek it out. We even meet Claire's law professor Dad for the first (and
last) time too, (... IF you were paying attention that is)!
-------------------------
..And Ben walked away from his duties as ADA (at the end of the 4th
season) a prisoner of his own conscience - dissolutioned by a system he
thought supported his rigidly ethical standards.
Fact is, Moriarty asked for a LOT more money to continue, and the
network provided him a humble exit from the show as their answer. ~I
have to admit though, the closing scene between Stone and Schiff was
very moving, but the name of the episode escapes me at the moment ...
Jim says:
Presumably, since they are all interchangeable cogs in a giant
government machine, we are not to be concerned about "what happened to
them." If you want that touchy feely personal angle, watch some other
cop show.
Jim
Merry Christmas to you, too, Scrooge...

Also, wasn't Moriarty's mental health rather unstable at that time?

This account protected by an attack cat.
Innuendo, my ass, so to speak.
Claire was . . . . well, we really don't know for sure. It looked bad, of
course, pretty dang bad. It's just that no one has ever said.
(Yes, there were plenty of mixed messages from TV Guide, but if you
believe Rupert Murdoch's publications, then I suggest a trip to London to
see some of the other stuff he prints . . .).

Step-dad.

At any time, I should say.
If you can show me any concrete evidence that Claire is dead, I will mail you
$100.
Concrete, NOT inuendo
I was under the impression that the accident left Claire in a coma....

There has never been any evidence in ANY episode that proves either of these
things.
Claire's fate has been intentionally left ambiguous.

She's dead, Jim.

All that's just your interpretation of things, bub. SHOUT it as fact
and you just make an ass of yourself.
Unless, of course, you were just trolling, in which case you've
already achieved asshood anyway.

dealing with the fact that "asshood" got past his spellchecker...
Huh? Did I miss something? I don't recall Claire having an affair with

Jerry Orbach isn't going to be too pleased with your answer... <grin>
She was, however, driving a drunken Lennie Briscoe home...

Yes you did. You have to watch the subtitles very closely. The affair was implied
in many *looks, phrases, etc..* And in The Aftermath Claire was surreptitiously
phoning Jack to meet him in the bar.
That is what makes this show so interesting, the intelligent way they discuss
issues, make offhanded comments about suspects, etc... They do not have to hit the
audience over the head with blunt instruments to make their points.

I don't have any concrete evidence, but I believe she is dead. Can you
send $50? <g>

It'll take more than a grand for that. HAND.
