I read an interview of Peta Wilson and she said that she's tired of Michael and
thinks that Nikita should get a new boyfriend. I think most of us watch LFN
just for Michael/Nikita relationship and the writers know that. Many times I
think about how I just want the other parts to be over so I can see interaction
between the two. Don't you all agree? Besides, Roy Dupuis is the better
actor.

I disagree. "Michael" is a truly terrible actor and I wish he'd go away.

Actors often have opinions about storyline that are inconsistent with the
wishes of the fans. Considering they don't write episodes, it's nothing to
worry about :-)

I don't watch LFN for the Michael/Nikita relationship but I do agree it'd be a
mistake to eliminate that facet of the show.

I agree, that's one of the main reasons why I watch.

Not me. Don't get me wrong; I love the Michael and Nikita scenes, but I like
most the interplay among all the actors, and the missions.

Andrew, I can see why you wouldn't think much of Roy Dupuis' acting,
especially since the first season.

You need to see him in some of his other vehicles. The character of Michael
is very limiting for any actor. I think, given what he has to work with,
Dupuis does an excellent job.

The character, however, has become a real snooze.

Gosh, you mean like she thinks that Nikita needs a boyfriend who doesn't
lie to her, manipulate her, and generally commit any conceivable crime
as long as he is "just following orders"? What a novel concept!

Good Day Ya'll!
Ya know, it's funny, but I've sorta thought for a little bit-o-time now that
(maybe?!) these two don't get along like a house on fire.
Reason: It's in the kiss. Just like the song says!
I'm aware of Michael's powerful & controlled personality, manifesting itself
through his uncompromising, rigid exterior - but you'd think we'd see the
tiniest bit of passionate abandon when he & Nikita when they smooch! But nope.

As for the other stuff, I do agree that Dupuis is the better actor. And while I
do enjoy watching the relationship between M & N, it is not the main reason I
watch the show.
That's it, JMHO!
Ya'll have sweet summer afternoons!

I, uh, was thinking about this a little more.
If the truth be told, the main reason I watch the show is to look at Roy
Dupuis. Oh yeah, I love his voice too! (Believe me, I realize how shallow this
sounds.)
That being said, I'm mainly interested in, but not restricted to, scenes he
appears in - love/romantic scenes included.
But I like the entire program, one of the best on TV!! (Now I know I'm not
alone with that thought!!)
Again, good day to you all!

I'm with you Lynne. I love to watch Roy. Scenes with him have my sitting up
and paying attention. In part because he is seldom featured and we never
know what nuances he will impart.

Hey, Red, no worries. I'm a sucker for a sexy growl myself. (I
prefer a Scots burr to a French accent any day, but I'm not complaining.)

Actually, though, this brings up an interesting question. Michael
*always* has this low, gruff voice. When he said something over the
transmitter for a mission in TET, that was the first time I'd ever heard
him speak in a 'normal' voice.

On a philosophical level, this is kind of revealing. A
low-pitched, gruff voice (produced far back in the throat, usually, unless
a person's vocal apparatus is very unusual) doesn't carry across
distances. If you want people to hear you, you have to speak at a higher
pitch than Michael uses, and project more. If he always uses a
non-projecting voice, this suggests to me that he thinks of himself as
always being in one-on-one situations that involve small spaces, small
groups of people--in other words, *not* a likely candidate for a
leadership position. Think about it--if Michael briefs a team before they
go out on a mission, even speaking to so small a group of people and in a
not-very-large space his regular voice has to sound different. It makes me
think that his ambition, and the power he seeks, isn't the kind that would
involve his being a visible authority figure--even in so covert a place as
Section--but that he's after something different.

On a physical level: one of the things that can damage a person's
vocal cords, to the point where they can't produce anything *other* than a
growl, is prolonged screaming. Such as often occurs under torture. Do we
know if Michael's ever been seriously worked over by anyone? Perhaps when
he was quite young? (Other interesting causes of damage: smoking and
alcohol of course. Ingestion of certain kinds of poisons. Inhalation of
smoke, poisoned gasses or--in unusual cases--extreme heat or cold,
although I've never known anyone that actually happened to. Throat
infections. Trauma to the throat area, such as being strangled. Isn't it
fun studying to be a voice teacher? :))

On yet another level, it could just be that Michael knows how
incredibly sexy he sounds. Or--just thought of this--could be that he
deliberately uses that voice to make his superiors think his ambitions
won't carry him into a leadership role. Anyone with a speaking voice as
lovely as Madeline's has certainly studied the art of speech--not just
psycholinguistics but the use of pitch, tempo, etc.--and Michael would
probably count on her being able to interpret his use of voice.
I'm reaching again. Curse of the fanficker. Forgive me.

Conclusions? I think Michael's manipulative and doesn't lust after
Ops' job--possibly Maddy's, though.

Michael was a activist in France, and was involved in some marches/riots
if i remember correctly. It is likely he has gotten tear gassed,
although probably not to the point of the damage you are talking about.

He has been in Section many years, most of them in the field. Odds are
he has been captured and worked over more than once. Enough to cause
the damage you mention? Beats me.

My vote has to be for either "Michael knows how incredibly sexy he
sounds" or "he deliberately uses that voice to make his superiors think
his ambitions won't carry him into a leadership role". Of the two, i
think the latter is more likely.

Definitely agree that Michael is a great actor and want to see him in other
things. I think Peta is good too haven't heard she is tired of Michael where
did you hear that. In an interview I heard she said only good things about him.
