I would like to see if someone on this NG could connect the regulars on
H:LOTS to Kevin Bacon through their film appearances in less than four
steps (without, of course, connecting them through each other).

OK, here's a few more...

Reed Diamond
Clear and Present Danger
James Earl Jones
Field of Dreams
Kevin Costner
JFK
Kevin Bacon

Michelle Forbes
Kalifornia
Brad Pitt
Interview with the Vampire
Tom Cruise
A Few Good Men
Kevin Bacon

Max Perlich (not an easy one, I gotta tell ya)
Beautiful Girls
Rosie O'Donnell
A League of Their Own
Tom Hanks
Apollo 13
Kevin Bacon

Now, if I could only come up with a movie Melissa Leo was in that would be all
of the current regulars.

Eye of the Tiger
Gary Busey
The Firm

Tom Cruise
A Few Good Men
Kevin Bacon

Richard Belzer
Mad Dog and Glory
Robert DeNiro
Sleepers
Kevin Bacon

Andre Braugher
Glory
Denzel Washington
Philadelphia

Tom Hanks
Apollo 13
Kevin Bacon

Clark Johnson & Kyle Secor
Drop Zone
Gary Busey
The Firm

Tom Cruise
A Few Good Men
Kevin Bacon

Still working on the others...

OK, I've got Melissa Leo. IMDB tells me that she was in a movie called "Last
Summer in the Hamptons" with Martha Plimpton, among others. I've never even
heard of this movie, but I'll go with what they say.

Melissa Leo
Last Summer in the Hamptons
Martha Plimpton
I'm Not Rappaport
Walter Matthau
JFK
Kevin Bacon

Thanks for the little diversion. I must get some work done, so I'll leave it
to others to figure out the no-longer regulars.

As I posted before, Ralph Tabakin (Scheiner) was in Diner with Kevbo.

Thank you, thank you.

I guess I won't get any work done, after all. This thing is addictive.

Here's my best guess on the rest:

Daniel Baldwin
Born on the Fourth of July

Tom Cruise
A Few Good Men
Kevin Bacon

Ned Beatty
Deliverance (squeeeee)
Jon Voight
Mission: Impossible

Tom Cruise
A Few Good Men
Kevin Bacon

Isabella Hofmann
Tripwire
David Warner
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Christian Slater
Murder in the First
Kevin Bacon

Jon Polito
The Hudsucker Proxy
Paul Newman
The Color of Money

Tom Cruise
A Few Good Men
Kevin Bacon

Would you believe Zeljko Ivanek (Ed Danvers)?
Courage Under Fire

Denzel Washington
Philadelphia
Tom Hanks
Apollo 13
Kevin Bacon

And extra credit for the shortest link of any recurring character on H:LOTS.
I won't reveal it, so let's see who can come up with the actor who was in a
movie with Kevin Bacon.

Okay, so my reading comprehension's not so fine, I wasn't working with
"film."

Sorry, you're post didn't reach me til after I posed the question. Good
answer, but the movie I was thinking of was Sleepers. Levinson must think the
two go well together.

It's not a "good" answer, it's the right answer.

Anyway, Tabakin's in every Levinson film, so it's not the Bacon/Tabakin chemistry,
per se, that Levinson wanted.

Kevin Bacon, so there you go--

Funny you should bring this up; this was the topic of one of Clark
Johnson's readings at the Homicide Live festivities the other eve.

'kay, what the hell. Please stand back and bask in my trivial glow as I
attempt to do this <*ahem*> _without_ the Oracle of Bacon (at
virginia.edu, by the way; my tax dollars at work, ladies and gentlemen).
Current cast only:

* Richard Belzer <<A Very Brady Sequel>> Tim Matheson <<Animal House>>
Kevin Bacon

* (1) Andre Braugher <<Court Martial of Jackie Robinson>> John Lithgow
<<Footloose>> Kevin Bacon

* (2) Andre Braugher <<The Tuskegee Airmen>> Cuba Gooding, Jr. <<A Few
Good Men>> Kevin Bacon

* (3) Andre Braugher <<Primal Fear>> Alfre Woodard <<Scrooged>> Karen
Allen <<Animal House>> Kevin Bacon

* Reed Diamond <<Memphis Belle>> John Lithgow <<Footloose>> Kevin Bacon

* Michelles Forbes <<Kalifornia>> Brad Pitt <<Sleepers>> Kevin Bacon

* (1) Clark Johnson <<Adventures in Babysitting>> Elisabeth Shue
<<Cocktail>> Tom Cruise <<A Few Good Men>> Kevin Bacon

* (2) Clark Johnson <<Adventures in Babysitting>> Vincent D'Onofrio <<Ed
Wood>> Sarah Jessica Parker <<Footloose>> Kevin Bacon

* Yaphet Kotto <<Midnight Run>> Robert De Niro <<Sleepers>> Kevin Bacon

* Melissa Leo <<A Time of Destiny>> William Hurt <<The Doctor>> Elizabeth
Perkins <<He Said, She Said>> Kevin Bacon

* Max Perlich <<Ferris Bueller's Day Off>> Jeffrey Jones <<Ed Wood>> Sarah
Jessica Parker <<Footloose>> Kevin Bacon

* (1) Kyle Secor <<The Doctor>> Elizabeth Perkins <<He Said, She Said>>
Kevin Bacon

* (2) Kyle Secor <<City Slickers>> Bruno Kirby <<Sleepers>> Kevin Bacon

* Obligatory plug for Ralph Tabakin (I know this has been brought up
before): in "Diner" and "Sleepers" with ol' Kev. (I *heart* Scheiner!)

[Please note I haven't seen _all_ these movies; I used to play a similar
game with my sibs before the Kevin Bacon game came about, the object
being that you link an actor back to themselves with the most intermediary
steps you can think up. A little more challenging, but I hate to imagine
what it would be like had Kevin Bacon never entered the biz.]

OOOoooo aren't we defensive. For your information, it is "a" right answer,
not "the" right answer. I was just complimenting you on an answer I hadn't
thought of. Sheesh.

I'm five degrees away from Kevin Bacon. basically, I think the whole
world in one way or another is connected to Kevin Bacon. either that's
really scary, or I just don't like KB all that much.

Do tell...how?

Although, in college, I cheered myself up by realizing I was 3 degrees
from Alan Alda. (Eva to her sister Bridget to Ellie Smeal--then
President of NOW--to Alan Alda. Please don't tell me Alan Alda didn't
know Ellie Smeal, or I'll be crushed.)--Eva Whitley (who should learn
the name of the guy in the Baltimore Science Fiction Society who is on
the crew of HOMICIDE, so then she'll be 2 degrees from the whole cast)

since you asked.....

well, I used to work for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation where I know
Bill Schmidt who is the Government Relations Director, who knows Dr.
Robert Levine (who I met, and really am glad that I no longer associate
with), who is married to Mary Tyler Moore (MTM), who was in "Ordinary
People" with Donald Sutherland, who was in JFK with Kevin Bacon. :-)

if you can close the gap on MTM, then the degrees to KB get fewer.
needless to say, that's how I'm related to Kevin Bacon, or at least how
I'm connected to him. but, my bet is that anyone can connect themselves
to Kevin, hence, the beauty of the game.
