The Links has the NBC Press Release for the movie. Yes, it has
spoilers.

It's another "minus" moment, Gil...

Oh God. No.
I should *not* read spoilers. I keep telling myself this, it will
ruin the film for me... but they are so... hard... to ... resist!
Ok, that's it, I'm off to bed, enough damage has been done for one
day.

Damn.... why oh why do I want to subject myself to this torture? I've
already watched the show go down the toilet once, I just watched Chris
Carter wrap up "Millennium" *really* nicely in the worst X-files episode I
have ever seen, and now I have to be there when Homicide comes back to
life only to shoot itself in the foot?

I haven't actually read any of the spoilers, just Gil's little plus and
minus summation based on what he's read so far and I am horrified. I'm
expecting the absolute worst.

-Kay (hoping to be pleasantly surprised when the movie just "doesn't
suck.")

Tossing in some spoiler space here....

That should be enough.

Just a few comments on that press release.

First of all, I'm really concerned that the main way they are hyping
this movie is by promoting the guest stars (who from what I can tell,
will have relatively small roles) in the first paragraph. To me, it
says that TPTB don't have much hope of drawing people into this movie
any other way. Who the heck are they trying to market this movie at
anyway? You've got to be a pretty desperate fan of either Jason
Priestly or Ed Begley, Jr. to watch a whole 2 hour movie just for a few
minutes or air time by either actor. Shouldn't the story line, and/or
the return of Andre and the rest of the old cast be a bigger selling
point than a couple of guest stars?

Then they include a paragraph about some guy from Oz playing a TV
cameraman, even though they don't mention his whole name anywhere.
(That's some pretty poor editing on their part, which really makes their
promo dept look bad, but that's just me.) But if we've got this other
guy in here, what the heck is our Emmy winning buddy Brodie going to be
doing? Looks like there's going to be some major plot contrivances
here, but we know that already.

Still not having much hope for this to turn out well.

You would think so, but NBC aren't thinkers, they're wankers.

The plot contrivances are what concern me, too. 20-odd stars in a 90 minute
telemovie centred around a shooting of one of the major characters *and* it
will wrap up storylines from the final season? I'm sure it will get done,
but will it get done well?

There has been a suggestion that Fontana et al have nothing to prove with
this movie - ie. there will be no kowtowing to NBC's wishes and that we'll
get pure Homicide. But pure Homicide is about 8 (approx.) detectives and
their *routine*, not about 20 people coming back just to hang around the
sides... two dead detectives included!?!

And as far as the guest cameos are concerned - I don't give a damn! If NBC
want to use them to publicize the movie, they can go right ahead. We here
will all be watching for other reasons... well, most of us will.

I suggest that you get REAL chummy with someone who has both a compatible VCR
system and a large heart. (I guess that lets most of us out....)

Because of the VCR or the heart?

I've got an NTSC compatible video and television, so all I'm looking for is
someone with a big heart. Any ideas?

Most of us would do it out of the goodness of our collective hearts. Some
would charge for postage and maybe cost of the tape. I would, but since my one
VCR is in peices, being cleaned by my cybergeek husband at the present time,
I'm of no help to you. Hopefully, it will be reassembled (and in working
order) by the time the movie rolls around. I wouldn't stake your chance of
seeing the movie on me, however. In addition to being a humorless sociopath,
I'm also notoriously absent-minded.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

Okay, it's okay, it could be okay. "Quirky," yeah, that's it, it could
be kinda quirky in a Homicidey kinda way...

Jason Priestly, for dog's sake...Fontana, you fucking bastard...no, I'm
okay, seriously...

What is this "heart" of which you speak?

Robert Bloch, author of "Psycho" and some truly wonderful humor and a
very funny toastmaster at SF conventions, in response to the
accusation that he had the heart of a small boy, responded that yes he
did and he kept it in a jar on his desk.

That wasn't a suggestion, Keith. That was an expression of wild,
unreasonable, blind hope.

There's something about these spoilers which affect some of us in a
negative fashion. I'm tempted to give them up if some weren't so damn
funny in a black humor sort of manner.
