That's all.
Well, there's another St. Elsewhere continuation. Steve Allen and Jayne
Meadows played Dr. Victor Ehrlich's parent's on the show.

Did. I. Really. Need. A. Spoiler. Warning. For. Someone. Who. Will. Be. Guest.
Starring. In. An. Episode? I'm sure it will be advertised in TV spots a week or
two before the episode airs. I'm not giving away any story details and it
isn't as if the actor's identity being kept a secret would be relevant to the
story.
If that is the case, then I'm sorry and I'll try not to let it happen again.
I'm also sorry if the fact that you now know that Steve Allen will be in an
episode is going to ruin your enjoyment of the story.
Next time though you should have a warning about taking the lord's name in vain
goshdarnit.
Bye.
From John Landbeck's "MINI-FAQ FOR ALT.TV.HOMICIDE":
Suggestion 7, regarding spoiler information; feel free to post
information which may "spoil" upcoming episodes (the sources for
spoilers are legion; trade magazines, interviews, the NBC web-site,
educated guesses on your part, etc). A spoiler is any piece of
information, which when read, will give away or "spoil" some aspect of
a particular upcoming episode (or episodes). You know, who gets the
case, if the suspect is guilty, who the guest star will be, particular
lines/scenes; these are spoilers. BUT; --*BUT*-- mark the post as a
spoiler at the beginning (by writing the word "SPOILER" on the subject
line AND the first line of your post. And then leave an entire page
blank before revealing whatever it is you have to relate (this is
called "spoiler space"). It is common courtesy to allow others the
choice of whether or not to share in your
reading-the-last-chapter-first.

And, I should add, I don't remember any gripes when it was posted that
James Earl Jones was going to guest star.
I tried to verify that thru DejaNews, but I don't have the patience to
look though every article (slooooooow response today). I found the article
where it was originally posted, and didn't find anybody jumping down the
poster's throat.

I didn't see her blasphemize Mr. Coffee (from whom all good things come)
anywhere in her post. If she would have, that would have been goddamn
offensive.

I'll reduce my rant to:please don't post spoilers in the subject line. I
usually read spoilers personally, but many people don't want to. And its
not hard to understand why. And many DO consider guest star info to be a
spoiler.

Why? I'm a fan of Homicide, not necessarily NBC. ER was a rerun this week,
and that's the only other show off the top of my head that I bother to
watch on that network on a regular basis. I don't read TV guide, rarely
read Entertainment Weekly, and my local newspaper and TV listings suck.
Were it not for this ng, I wouldn't know who the guest stars were in
advance, ever.
That said, I don't really care or not whether I know about guest stars
ahead of time or not. So if your argument is that who the guest star is
isn't really spoiler material (compared to, say, plot developments
involving the main characters, who's leaving the show, etc.), that's one
thing. Go ahead and make that argument, though I'm sure there are many who
will still disagree. But to say that any fan of the show would already know
about high-profile guest stars before the show airs, I have to say uh uh.
Weak. I'm a TV/pop-culture junkie, but I'm a junkie with other things to
do, and I haven't participated in any activities this week that indicated
who will be guesting on Homicide.

Sorry, but I'm on your side. I posted that information, too, and I don't
consider that a spoiler, either. If you say, "Ballard, Cox and Falzone are
trapped in a barn with bars on the exits and blown up by a crazed
'Unabomber' wannabe," THAT's a spoiler.

You may not, but those of us who have been around these parts a bit longer do.
Have some courtesy and err on the side of caution.

Yes. Allen is the last of the remaining people on this planet who
comes closest to fitting the definition of a Renaissance Man. He has
applied his talents in a great many fields and excelled in all of
them. I can understand why someone might not have had their radar
register a particular musician or comedian or actor or song writer or
philosopher or author, but it's very hard to understand why someone's
radar wouldn't have registered Steve Allen, who is all of those things
and more.

Hey, Daddy-o. I have a cool record (yes, an LP) of Jack Kerouac reading
from his books and Steve Allen playing piano accompaniment. It's to the
moon, baby.

um, excuse me....this isn't the er ng or the 90210 ng. geez, you're not
going win any friends here with comments that like, woman.......anyway,
did ole Mr. Allen say whether or not he would be playing a little piano
during the ep. and is he going to be a government agent? (I seem to
recall that was his profession when he was on St. Elsewhere)

And what did you pull that out of? He's a rather modest,
self-deprecating fellow, actually. Most people know him for his
various talented accomplishments in the arts, and others know him best
for his intellectual pursuits and accomplishments.
I'd have him over for a dinner party anytime.
You're probably confusing him with Tim Allen...
Anyone interested in really knowing about Steve Allen should read his
excellent online biography <http://www.dove.org/whoswho/allenbio.htm>.
