And the strip-mining of our TV heritage continues...

It's a virtually guaranteed that the Nazis in this movie will be
treated more sympatheticly than in the original TV series.

I don't think that will be the case. The original series wasn't sympathetic to Nazis anyway. Characters like Klink and Schultz were not Nazis. They made characters like Hochstetter look like fools and in other episodes did the same to other characters like that. Take another look at the series, you'll see.

Also, I've been seeing this movie rumor for years and years. I'd like to see it for the sake of it.

Problem is today you will be hard pressed to find many actors who will want to portray the US military in a positive light. Take a look at what replaced HH on TV. MASH went out of their way to portray the military negatively.

I want to see it but at the same time I’m scared to. I don’t want the show polluted by new memories.

On another note, do you guys think that when off camera Leon Askin, Werner Klemperer and John Banner spoke in German to each other? Being in a country where few (if anyone) speaks your language has to be lonely. Also, when you’re immersed in another culture & language, it usually affects your accent and how you talk. I know Howard Caine spoke 32 languages, so he could have joined in!

A man who speaks 32 languages fluently is the man you take on any international trip!

One of my favorite Hogan/Klink interactions:

Hogan: “But you wanted to be a general! Tell me Kommandant, how many of your classmates have been killed in action?”
Klink: *waves a hand and looks sad* “Quite a few.”
Hogan: “And how many have been shot by Hitler?”
Klink: *still looks sad but waves a hand again* “Quite a few more.”
