Does anyone know why Kalas' neck scar (inflicted by Duncan with a broken
piece of glass) never healed? If he's immortal, shouldn't it have healed
itself? I've just started watching and maybe this has been explained in an
episode I haven't seen. Thanks.

i had been told that nearly decapitating wounds don't heal without a
scar. Of course if he hadn't had that really yucky scar and the raspy
voice it wouldn't have been that great of an episode.

A severe neck wound is equivalent to a near beheading. It is the only kind of
wound that an immortal can't heal.

I thought he was quite successful as both Brother Kalas and as Anotonio

David Robb? Aye, he could do evil dressed in an angel's robe - he has
the experience <g>

Seriously though, I am a little tired of the movie/tv tradition of
giving a villain a scar as some kind of visual shorthand. People with
facial scars in RL have enough problems with self image without the
movies constantly making every scarred character into a villain. Evil
can be very beautiful - on the outside at least. I'd like to see a
hero with a facial scar. For example, Richard Sharpe (from the Sharpe
novels which have been made into wonderful tv sagas) was originally
supposed to have a scar from his eye to his mouth "giving him a
sardonic expression" and he is most definately a hero (of the flawed
mode). Enter Sean Bean to play the character and exit the scar - why?

I don't know the actors that you're talking about, but this is a really good
point! I do think we have seen a number of beautiful evil people in the
media. I don't know if TV- and movie-makers could be expected to give the
good guys scars (unless they are victims), but they could certainly stop
giving them to the bad guys.

If truth be known I mentioned the tights because I was so

Mr. Robb can.

This is just my opinion, but I think that severe wounds, such as Kalas'
scar or Xavier's hand for examples, just don't heal properly or
completely, if at all. Remember, Kurgan's throat was never the same
after Ramirez sliced it.
Then again, we've seen immortals burned alive and come out smooth as a
baby's butt. It's not an exact science.

It was one of three plays shown on BBCA around Easter time; the
RSC at the Globe, there were quite a few HL people, (inculding
'Byron') and of course Patrick Stewart. Referre back to Donnas
post at the time if you are interested in details.

No, they`re not available on video yet....but the Beeb is
thinking about it. You can always hit the BBCA website, video
library and send in a request, I think they take notice of
public demand.

Untill then we just have to wait for the next showing.

Immortals can only die if they are beheaded. So, it is theorized by
many that, from the neck up, the Immortal healing process is not as
good as it could be (in the novel of the movie, Ramirez calls it
their "Achilles neck"). This can also explain why Kronos still has
that scar on his eye, and in the movie, the Kurgan still has a massive
scar across his throat.

Any scars that an immortal got before he was an immie, will stay. So the
only real scar we know of from the series that was after immortality is
Kalas' neck scar. Kronos in all likelihood had his before his first death.
After all these old immortals lived in very violent times, lots of fighting
etc. I have always wondered that DM didn't have any scars at all! Being a
warrior in 17th and 18th century Scotland should have meant some wounds at
one time, leaving scars. Oh well! YAHI!!!!!

But through the course of the series, MacLeod took cuts to the face and
neck, and none of htem scarred. It only seems to be a very deep cut to the
throat that remains. (as was the case with The Kurgan and Kalas) The
facial scar that both Kronos and Mako had appear to predate their first
death.

Well, actually, they were available on video once upon a time -- but only to
libraries and educational institutions. It was part of a BBC program at the
time to preserve *all* of the plays on video for posterity.

I saw the "Hamlet" for the first time when we were considering David Robb for
"Kalas" and I was intrigued by the credit on his resume. I found it available
to borrow from the video collection of the Los Angeles Public Library.

The scar on the Kurgan's neck came long after he became Immortal.
Plus, if you watch the movie closely, he has more facial scars in the
present that he does in the flashbacks. Theories, anyone?

As far as Duncan goes, I seem to recall one episode where a doctor
examined him, and said he was "one big massive piece of scar tissue".
And I guess that cut he got from Brian Cullen wasn't deep enough to
leave a bad scar.

The movie works on different rules than the series.

It was Anne, it was a third season ep. I think Gillian might know
best in this instance - she probably wrote the ep, she certainly had a
lot to do with the writing of it.

What I think he refers to is "Deadly Medicine" where DM is brought into the
ER after he was hit by a car. The nurse and doctor look at the X-rays of
DM's brain and make some comment about how the whole thing is a mess. Can't
remember the exact words! That was season one. Later Anne does do the
under the cover checking and makes the comment that he has no scars, none.
