I think this is a good idea. If I wasn't busy writting an Anne Rice
crossover with Forever Knight, I'd write it. The Methos/ Khayman meeting
would work out I think after all they're about the same age!

I know what you mean. That's what drew me intially to Highlander. I
hadn't seen an episode since the first season before the Watchers were
on there. Then one night when I was flipping through the channels and I
caught the opening credits I thought of the Talamasca immediatly. That
made me stay and watch a whole episode and got me hooked (well that and
Methos). I just think that it would be really great to do a crossover
(I'd write some fan fic but my writing skillls leave alot to be
desired). I can also find similarities between all of the characters of
each. Richie reminds me of Louis in the because of their innocence. Joe
is an Americanized version of Aaron Lightner. Methos and Khayman.
Claudia and Kenny. Last Lestat and Duncan. I find them very similar
because of their remorse of what they have to do and of the joy they
sometimes get out of it.

Yeah - maybe if we can find out how the Talamasca finances their

their money! :D

I'm also an Anne Rice fan, (or at least I was until *Servant of the
Bones*) and have made the same observations. I'll have to check, but
aren't Lestat and Duncan contemporaries? Not that they'd get along,
but I relish the thought of my two favorite fictional characters
together :-) IMHO, the idea for the Watchers probably was inspired by
the Talasmaca.
I also do role playing, mainly Vampire (by White Wolf), which was
inspired by Anne's writings. There are other types of characters in
the system (werewolves, ghosts, mages, etc.) A couple of guys have
posted rules on the 'net for bringing Immortals into the game system.
In this system, the Talasmaca/Watchers are called the Arcanum. Having
an immortal interact with the vamps in the group is quite entertaining
(How about an immortal vampire hunter? They die when decapitated too)
Also, whomever posted the Highlander rules made up the stats for most
of the main characters (TV and movie). I was *forced* to raise DM's
apperance score from a 3 (above average) to a 5 (god-like). We
noticed that Joe, Richie and Amanda were missing, so we made stats for
them, too. We skipped Methos, how do you estimate the abilites and
knowledges of someone who's 5000 years old?

Claudia and Kenny! What a couple those two would make!
If anyone is still inclined to write fanfic (not me) THAT would
be a fantastic crossover. The two characters have so much in
common, think about it:
1. both immortal
2. both brought to immortality as children (very rare in both circles)
3. both survive by killing, though they could get around it-
both choose not to, they enjoy the hunt.
4. both are very self-centered, with no apologies for it.
5. AND they are both blond.

Okay, I'll give in. That's true. It's all an alternate universe.
And you're right. Claudia and Kenny would make a scary
couple, but I like Claudia. Can't stand Kenny though.
Now that's a scary thought!--

Have you read Anne Rice's The Mummy: Ramses the Damned. There's your
immortals. (which BTW if they ever made into a movie AP would be
perfect for the role of Ramses!) And I know in one of the latest
novels, either Vampire or Mayfair, she metioned that members of the
Talamasca were "watching" the immortal Ramses and the others he had
created. This one line raised my hopes that a sequel to The Mummy would
be out soon. I like all of Anne's writing (even her erotica!) but The
Mummy is my all time favorite.
Cybercat
WOW!!! I love Anne Rice and I love Highlander and I never thought of the
Watchers and the Talamasca being so close to one in the same. Both group
have a fairly rigid hierarchy. They are world wide. They keep extensive
records. They usually just observe and study, they don't get involved.
And your right Adrian would make a supperb Ramses. I'm also looking
forward to the sequel that looked entirely possible at the end of the
first book. Though I'm sorry she's done with Lestat. Maybe this will
give her a chance to start on the sequel.

Yuck, the idea of a cross-over repulses me. I'm sorry, Rice's atheistic
worldview utterly conflicts with the reality of "holiness" expressed in
HL. A Rice vampire has no problem doing anything on holy ground (There
is no God in her books--she has all the major signs of being a very
alienated ex-catholic) An immie can't even harm a mortal oon holy ground
in HL! The viewpoints are just way too divergent to be entertain9iong.
However, someother vampire/supernatural mythos might work. Maybe
Fred Saberhagen's Dracula concept might coincide with HL?

I don't know a thing about Anne Rice's work, or Saberhagen's, so
I can't comment. But to my mind, the best possibility for a
vampire/Immortals crossover was the late "Forever Knight". It has
"holiness" all throughout, and the two shows clearly share a common
audience. Even their storytelling techniques were similar. It would've
been easy to arrange financially, too, since both shows were Canadian
productions.
I also watched "Kindred: the Embraced" during its brief run, and
I occasionally contemplated a crossover there, too, but I don't think it
would've worked as well. I do find it interesting that the lead actor on
that show, who played vampire "prince" Julian Luna, resembled AP a
little.

Yes Rice may have an athesists view of the world in her books but look
at the broader picture. The Talamasca and the Watchers are practically
the same thing, Claudia and Kenny could be the same thing only Kenny
isn't dead, and a view of both kinds of immortals that live in this
world and must kill to survive. The view god may not be shared between
Highlander and her novels but so many other ideas are. Both the vampires
and the immortals must kill to survive and they don't relish in this
except for on some occasions. And the interesting part of the crossover
is the fact that these are so similar. I also find that it always best
to leave religious views out of the issue of entertainment because not
all views are shared and unnecesary conflicts rise from this. Don't take
that the wrong way though I respect your opinion and I believe in god
and am a Catholic but that's my bussiness and I don't feel that Miss
Rice should be chastised because she doesn't share the same views as
someone else, because that's her bussiness and if you don't like it
don't read her novels.

I've pestered some spec-writers on a.b.a-r about it, but so far had no luck. But
I agree, I'd love the idea!

I could see Joe together with David. An least David before Tale of the Bodythief
(dunno if you've read it yet, so I won't say more)

OH yes! definitly. This was an idea that I've played with before. They're about
the same age, aren't they? (don't have my copy of QotD, friend of mine refuses to
give it back right now, Khayman is 5000 or 6000 years old, isn't he? He's the
oldest now...)

<g> I'm also a fan of Forever Knight, X-Files, Star Wars and Star Trek (all
incarnations). Can you imagine some of the weird ideas that sometimes crawl
around *my* mind? <bg>

Erm - have you read Memnoch the Devil? Lestat *meets* God. And the Devil.
Unfortunatly...
The whole book is about religion (although I would have preferred it if she'd
left out the Vampires. But discussion about Memnoch has *finally* died down on
a.b.a-r, so I don't want to revive it here, but from what I've heard Anne has had
a - religious reawakening or something. I preferred her early books... Servant of
the Bones - *shudder*)
>An immie can't even harm a mortal oon holy ground

Even if you igore MtD (many do... <g>), the books don't say that God does not
exist. The vampires are unaffected by crosses, holy water, etc, but that does not
necessarily rule out the existance of God. And they are very different creatures
from immortals, and (I might be wrong, I can see HL only on German TV, and I've
only recently started watching the eps) I seem to recall that even a Buddhist
retreat counts as holy ground, and Buddhism is a religion without a God (hope I
don't offend any Buddhists here, it's just from what I know of Buddhism. Feel
free to correct me).

Richi as Louis? Erm - please, don't. Louis is beautiful, soulful, and often
deeply troubled by what he is and the fact that he has to kill, and - I just
don't have the words to describe him, but Richie... Don't kill me, but I don't
really like him. And I'd compare him more to Daniel, I guess. Or Jesse?
Methos and Khayman - well, Khayman seems a lot more - innocent than Methos,
because - well, he's so powerful on one hand, and on the other he seems so lost.
I dunno why, but now I have this picture of Methos and Louis together in my head
and can't get it out... (not that I mind, I drool overr both of them! <g>)
Never saw the ep with Kenny, so I can't comment. Joe and Aaron - yes!
Lestat and Duncan - this is difficult. Lestat yearns to be good, even if it is
being good at being evil. He has no code of morals like Duncan does. He never
asked to be made a vampire, but he certainly doesn't regret being one (well, most
of the time). And he doesn't really mind the killing of evil-doers.
I agree that they are both action-oriented characters. But Lestat doesn't have
the responsibility Duncan has. He'd never take a student like Duncan did. Look
what he did with Louis... He basically kept him in the dark about everything,
whatever his reasons were (I kind of have my own expaination about this)
>I'm also an Anne Rice fan, (or at least I was until *Servant of the
>Bones*) and have made the same observations. I'll have to check, but

Nope. Lestat is a bit over 200 now.
>I think hooking the watchers up with "Anne Rice's" vampires would be a

>Duncan to get involved.
Hm- he could have to rescue Joe from being given the Dark Gift by 'Stat who once
again took a 'shine' to a mortal and isn't thinking about consequences...?? <g>
Someone out there who wants to write this? Please???
>And who says she dies? Heck, tv got an alternate
>universerse where the prize was never won, why can't we
>create our own alternate Ricean universe where Claudia was
>never killed?
I think her death is necessary for the relationship between Lestat and Louis and
Armand. But an alternative universe where that happened differently - hm, very
intriguing thought.
But then Lestat would not have gone underground at the beginning of the centruy
to heal his wounds, and not risen in '85 and recorded his album and thus would
not have awakened Akasha and the whole destruction of most of the vamps would not
have happened. Totally different universe. Fascinating idea... (I'm supposed to
study Kanji right now, not sitting around making up alternative universes...
*sigh*)
Have you (the one who started this, can't figue out who that was anymore) thought
of asking this question on alt.books.anne-rice? I think there'd be more Anne Rice
fans who know Highlander than the other way around.
Just an idea.
