Hi
got this from the big list

----------
I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad news but while many of the new folks
here never knew Claire, I know lots of the "old-timers" did. I had not
talked to Claire in years, despite living in the same city and did not
even know she was in the hospital. :(

Permission is given from Monique to pass this along to other Highlander
forums. Especially ones that Claire had been involved with.

Thanks,
virginia

Claire Maier passed away Friday morning August 20th after a week-long
hospital stay. Cause of death was renal failure. She was 48 years old. Her
remains will be cremated in accordance to her wishes.

An informal memorial service will be held within the next ten days or so on
the campus of Emory University in Atlanta. If you wish to attend, please get
in touch with Monique Alexander at 404-289-8162 or Moniq...@aol.com
for the exact date & time.

I am so sorry about Claire. Her participation here was always lively, and
has certainly been missed.
We have lost contact with so many people who used to be very active here.
Some of them were in very ill health, can't be raised through email, and
since our relationships were mostly maintained through the Internet, there
is absolutely no way to tell if they are still walking this earth. If
there's anyone out there lurking, who used to participate but doesn't
anymore ... now would be a good time to drop the Cloak of Invisibility and
say hi.

May she rest in peace and rise in GLORY to seek the Divine unencumbered.

So many lovely memories of Claire's posts. She could match Donna factoid

Her sweet letter to Vancouver Weekend at Joe's.

Her gentle and always welcome presence will be missed....

At the first Gathering Convention, Gillian and I finally had to disqualify
her from answering our trivia questions, because no one else ever got a
chance to answer <g>

She has and will be missed

:-(

I have fond memories of Claire's posts from back when I first found Highlander
fandom online (on AOL) almost a decade ago. As Donna mentions her knowledge of
Highlander trivia was simply amazing.

I've missed her posts over the past few years. :::sending thoughts of comfort
to her family & friends & all who will miss her:::

Seems odd that we were just discussing her here recently...

I met Claire when she drove herself, wheelchair and all, up here to the Chicago
area for the Warehouse Con thingy. My condolences to her friends and family.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I didn't know Claire very well, but I remember
when she used to post here.

That's really nice, Alicia. I'm glad you saved that.

After the WareHouse Con that Rene mentioned, which Claire attended in her power
chair due to failing health, she got jazzed about the idea of learning to
swordfight. (Thanks in large part to the encouraging attitudes of ADL and
especially Bob Chapin.) Because she didn't have much arm strength, she found
an instructor to teach her small sword (they are very light) and stuck with the
lessons for years. She lost computer access soon after that but when we talked
on the phone (on rare occasions, I'm ashamed to say...), she always had updates
about her sword lessons, and progress on her PhD dissertation.

I may have more strength in my arms and legs, but I don't have her strength of
spirit...

Probably 19 years too late -- I can't imagine anyone in this thread is connected still to Claire's family?

Leslie Fish is trying to get permission to release one of Claire's "filk" parodies. I have guesses of who to contact via the 2004 obituary, but a direct connection to her brother would be extraordinarily valued. Thank you!
