[posted and mailed]

This is a list of the most frequently asked questions and answers
about season 6 of Highlander. Hopefully, it answers your questions.
There a much larger FAQ available elsewhere; if you wait 'til
Thursday, a kind lady named Maria should post info on where to get it.

Season 6 FAQ

V. 1.3 [Thanx to Claire Maier and Velia Tanner for some editing comments.]

[Contains minor spoilers of episodes through 2 of Hearts.]

Q. 1) What's with all the re-runs?
Q. 2) What's with all the female immortals?
Q. 3) Where are Amanda, Joe, and Methos?
Q. 4) Where's Richie?
Q. 5) Where was Duncan in Two of Hearts and for most of Deadly
Exposure?
Q. 6) What happened to Duncan's hair, clothing, and car?
Q. 7) I think this season sucks! Don't you agree?
Q. 8) When will new episodes resume?
Q. 9) I've missed some episodes. Can anyone tell me what's happened?
Q. 10) How come some people have already seen _To Be_ and _Not To Be_?
Q. 11) What's this I'm hearing about a convention?
Q. 12) What's the future of Highlander?
Q. 13) Is there really going to be another Highlander movie? Who will
be in it?
Q. 14) Is there a bigger FAQ anywere? How about a complete episode guide?
How about a place i can get info about the newsgroup?

Q. 1) What's with all the re-runs?

The first four seasons were 22 episodes; the fifth was 18; the sixth
(current) season is just 13 episodes. But be grateful -- the
alternative to 13 episodes was no episodes at all. The show was
originally not going to be renewed for a sixth season. See Q. 2 to
find out why it *was* renewed.

Q. 2) What's with all the female immortals?

The show was not originally going to be renewed after the fifth
season: the ratings were too low. The reason we got a sixth season at
all was that USA network was interested in buying a spin-off of
Highlander based on a female immortal, to go with La Femme Nikita.
They wanted episodes starring some actresses as female immortals, to
sort of audition these actresses.

However, USA decided *against* buying the HL spinoff. For more
information, see the question about the future of Highlander.

Q. 3) Where are Amanda, Joe, and Methos?

Once more, the show was originally not going to be renewed. The
actors and actresses made some other plans. Peter Wingfield (Methos)
starred in Noah's Ark (a show in the UK), Jim Byrnes (Joe Dawson)
wanted to go home to Vancouver, and acording to some people, Elizabeth
Gracen (Amanda) went back to school for an art history degree.

Winfield/Methos and Byrnes/Dawson will be back for the last three
episodes, while Gracen/Amanda will be back for the last two.

Q. 4) Where's Richie?

"He's dead, Jim." Really. He got killed in the last episode of the
5th season, _ArchAngel_. Killed by Duncan, in fact, who thought he
was a shapeshifting demon. Nope, i'm serious.

Why did they kill him like this? Well, the stories conflict. As
Velia Tanner says, some say Stan Kirsch [the dude who plays Richie,
assuming i spelled it right] wanted his character to go out with a
bang, some say the writers wanted a way to destroy Duncan "beyond
anything that happened to him before" and some say Adrian wanted a way
to explore new territory. What's the truth? <shrug>.

Q. 5) Where was Duncan in Two of Hearts and for most of Deadly
Exposure?

He wanted some time off from filming, and specified this in his
contract.

Q. 6) What happened to Duncan's hair, clothing, and car?

Adrian Paul wanted to cut his hair, and the business with Richie made
for a good in-the-show reason. According to Claire Maier, in real
life, the Citroen needed to be replaced, and Adrian Paul (Duncan)
liked the Rover. Also according to Claire, the new clothing was way
the Paris wardrobe thought of "summer clothing."

Q. 7) I think this season sucks! Don't you agree?

Some people do, some people don't. We haven't taken a poll or
anything, but there are a fair number of people who kinda like season
6, and a fair number of people who think season six sucks stones. So
far, no one has posted to say they think season 6 was the best season,
though.

Q. 8) When will new episodes resume?

Brace yourself -- after Two of Hearts, the next new episode
(Indiscretions) will be aired in *May*. The week after will be _To
Be_, and the week after that will be the last episode of Highlander:
_Not to Be_. For more information, you'll want to visit
(http://www.rysher.com/).

Note that if you go to the Official Highlander Convention in Anaheim,
California, you'll get to see an early screening of _To Be_ and _Not
to Be_. See the question about cons. :)

Q. 9) I've missed some episodes. Can anyone tell me what's happened?

A very kind lady named Jinjifore has taken to writing up the recent
episodes, in a sort-of transcript form. [She modestly calls them
"synopses", but they're a lot more than that.] So far, she's done all
of season 5, and most of season 6; as of this writing, she's got only
one epsiode left in season 6. She's also done a good chunk of season
4, and a few episodes in season 3. Please don't pester her to work
faster -- these take a long time, and she's a busy lady.

The URL for her work is: http://www.yak.net/ian/jinjifore/index.html

The full FAQ (mentioned in a much later question) includes an episode
guide with brief summaries of Highlander episodes starting with season
1, but is a little behind. See later for details on how to get it.

Between Jinjifore and the full FAQ, all epsiodes are covered.

Q. 10) How come some people have already seen _To Be_ and _Not To Be_?

One of the Powers That Be for the Highlander TV show invited a slew of
people to an advance screening in California, and had lots of extra
seats, so she let in the public. Very nice of her.

Also, the people who go to the official Highlander convention in
Anaheim (see the relevant question) will also be able to see _To Be_
and _Not to Be_, according to the webpage.

Q. 11) What's this I'm hearing about a Highlander Convention?

Actually, there are lots of Highlander Conventions and conventions
with Highlander tracks.

*The* Highlander convention, ie. the Official Highlander Convention in
Anaheim California, will be the weekend of April 12. Which is also
the weekend that Easter and the first days of Passover happen, if you
care for such things. It's being arranged by the Producers of
Highlander, who promise that "everyone will be there." They are also
rumors of a screening of To Be/Not to Be (the last episodes of
Highlander, which will not have been aired yet.) See:
http://www.highlander-official.com/

Other up-and-coming conventions are Chronicles (in England), Homeland
98 (in Scotland -- this one sounds cool), and DragonCon (big
convention in Atlanta with a Highlander track). You might also see
refences to Spacedock 98, a convention that was recently held in
Maryland, with a Highlander track. Sorry, no URLs. :)

Q. 12) What's the future of Highlander?

*This* series was already supposed to have ended; this 6th season was
snatched out of the jaws of cancellation. Three more episodes in May,
and then it's over for good.

But it looks like a spin-off series will be produced for syndication.
The key question, who the spin-off will star, has not been officially
answered yet. However, at Spacedock 98 (a recent convention in
Maryland) Jim Byrnes (who plays Joe Dawson) said that he got a message
from the boyfriend of Elizabeth Gracen (who plays Amanda) saying that
she was being signed-on for 20 episodes of the new season. <shrug>.

Another movie is scheduled, and gets its own question.

Q. 13) Is there really going to be another Highlander movie? Who will
be in it?

Highlander IV is in a nebulous pre-existence stage. Last anybody
heard, there wasn't even a script yet. Adrian Paul (who plays Duncan
on the TV show) will be the lead star if it ever happens. Christopher
Lambert (who played Connor MacLeod in the movie(s) and in the first
episode of the show) has signed on, but with a stipulation in the
contract that says he has to approve the script. [For the record: he
hated Highlander II also, but was contractually obligated.] Greg
Widen, who wrote the original script for Highlander I, has signed on
to help write the script for HL:IV, which allegedly has made
Mr. Lambert feel a lot better about the script.

Q. 14) Is there a bigger FAQ anywhere? How about an episode guide?
How about a place i can get info about the newsgroup?

Yes to all questions.

The full FAQ is *huge*, and contains most of what you'd want to know
about Highlander. It's not updated all that frequently, though. You
can get the very latest version by sending mail to
doug...@chaplin.ndhm.gtegsc.com with the subject "send HL FAQ". The
FAQ can also be obtained via web/ftp, from
<ftp://mithral.iit.edu/pub/highlander/FAQ>. Note that the version at
mithral is even more out of date.

The FAQ includes an episode guide with teasers, that runs through the
end of the fifth season. As of this writing, it does not cover the
current season, and it does not give away story endings. For more
cimplete episode details on the past couple of seasons, see
Jinjifore's page (mentioned in the question about missed episodes.)

If you're interested in posting to the ATH (alt.tv.highlander)
newsgroup, you might want to read the "INFO" posts of the ever-helpful
Maria. She posts them every Thursday. They're also up on the web, at
<http://members.aol.com/RosebudSal/private/infoposts.html>.

Baywatch might be a credible alternative. That David Hasselhof can angst

I feel the same as you. I have watched every season so far, and this seams as
though AP doesn't care what happens to the show. You would think they would
want the last season to go out with a bang. I guess they just want it to done
and over with. Right now, I like watching re-runs instead of new eps.

Wow. After 6 years of professional and personal dedication to excellence in his
craft this is the gratitude and tribute Adrian Paul gets? I just don't
understand it. This man has been wounded innumerable times in the course of the
series and this season but kept every commitment and finished every project.
Lesser men would have been hospitalized or quit. Adrian Paul has been lauded
by fellow castmembers for his dedication (Valentine Pelka at Chronicles said
Adrian got the 4 horsemen together in a room before CaH and went over the
script and they WERE the 4 horsemen before they left that room). The
constellation of negative factors that played into the kind of season this one
turned out to be are overwhelming. Not the least of which was *other* cast
member unavailability. Sorry, I guess I'm just deeply saddened by this
"epitaph" for this extraordinarily talented man who has given us the legacy of
Highlander, the Series. Sigh.

Well that still doesn't adress the fact that he is sucking wind
this season and he definitely does not seem to want to be
there. Also keep in mind that he didn't originally want to
do a 6th season. Kinda shows too IMO.

The spin-off girls broke up the season, yes. "Deadly Exposure" was
dreadful, yes. The lack of the regular ensemble removed a certain
flavor, yes.

But Season 6 has an intensity of its own, different from what has gone
before, and AP has been doing a wonderful job of portraying the
character of the Duncan MacLeod who has been to a higher spiritual level
than he had known before at the same time as he has been totally
devastated by the events of his recent life. It is a difficult line to
walk, and he's been doing a good job of it. This DM is withdrawn and
quiet and wounded because that is what he is _supposed_ to be, not
because AP doesn't care about the character.

And I think that, if we can trust the reports of those who have seen the
series finale, they are indeed planning a big finish.

I agree, it's a shame that all of Adrian's dedication and commitment has come down
to this. BUT...let's not forget that he is Adrian Paul, not Duncan Macleod. He is
an actor (and a talented one at that!) and this was a job. He'd gotten just about
all he could from it, and now it's time to move on and continue to develop his
already considerable acting skills. As a creative artist, he deserves no less. So
while we are wearing sackcloth and ashes for the loss of our beloved Dunkie and
pals, we still have the spendid prospect of seeing him in other, hopefully no less
wonderful, roles in the future. And don't forget...in the end there's still
reruns........

Yeah I agree. Adrian Paul cannot be Fawlted for NOt caring anymore. Its how Macleod
IS now, People Change you know, epecially after what hes been through. And the
general BADNESS is series6 so far. Is NOT His fault. I hope the final 3 eps ARE
good, They should be!!!

the quantum leap ending was good though, they had a pop at the people who
councilled it, By NOt having a happy ending, it simple said, SAM had many more
adventures or somthing and
Dr Sam Beckette NEVER Returned Home. Which was good I thought.

You mean they actually WRITE for Baywatch? I thought it was all
large-breasted women in small swimsuits running over the sand, occasionally
accompanied by very muscular men in small swimsuits, and occasionally
venturing into the ocean to save the Victim o' the Week. They WRITE that

I see you are not the "only one" who found season #6 a dissapointment.
I beleive this entire final season was use as a buildup for the spin off
series which gives it the female lead so a lots of the episode was use
as character building for more women immie. AP has taken Highlander to
a fairly high standard I fear the spinoff series may not live up to
the standard we are use to.

At Chronicles, Gillian Horvath said that a typical writer's synopsis for a
"Highlander" episode would run to about 17 pages. For "Xena", it was less,
(from memory about 12, but I could be wrong).

She said that the "Baywatch" producers begin to get real worried if an
episode synopsis runs past 5 pages.

pamela anderson might have a problem being an immortal.
i mean, what exactly is the shelf-life of silicone? does anyone
know?

i mean, what if we are using some great new material for
implants 200 years for now, and she wants to go in and get
new ones. and they say, "lady, we haven't used that stuff
for 200 years. where'd you get those implants?"

as Kalas would say, "my, my, what a dilemma"

dorothy, you are SO right! amen, sister, amen!

the man does care deeply and passionately about his craft, and it
shows. i am very thankful for highlander: the series, and the
actors, actresses, everyone involved in the series. the work these
people go through, the research, the painstaking attention to detail
is to be lauded. there just aren't too many television series that
are of this caliber. this was a very special show, and i am sure that
as time goes by, more and more people will realize just how special
it is.

You're right, but only ALMOST worth not watching. All that's on lately

talented cast, writing staff, and so on. We should be grateful for ever minute,
and for AP's intense and obvious dedication to his work.
