Remember. It's okay for niggers to say nigger, refer to
themselves as niggers, call each other nigger, but don't you
dare call a nigger a nigger.

The same rules don't apply for Italians or anyone else however
apparently.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. New York Racing Association officials
say they've banned a food truck from Saratoga Race Course after
customers complained that the name of the business was offensive.

The co-owners of the Schenectady-based Wandering Dago tell local
media that they were informed Friday night by NYRA officials
that they had to remove their truck from the track Saturday
morning, a day after it opened for its 40-day season.

NYRA officials say they received complaints about the use of a
word that's considered derogatory to Italian-Americans.

The truck's owners say they're both of Italian descent and
consider the term a tribute to their hardworking immigrant
ancestors.

The owners had a previous run-in with the state when they were
denied a food vendor's license at the Empire State Plaza in
downtown Albany.

Seriously? They can't even indicate the supposedly "offensive" name or
even hint at it by replacing the vowels with asterisks or something? So
how am I supposed to make my own judgement of whether I think their
assessment was right? I guess I'm just supposed to ASSUME it really is
offensive because no one would ever over-react to anything, right?

I am SO sick of people finding offense in absolutely any little thing
and then forcing everyone to walk on eggshells to avoid offending them
or even being accused of a hate crime. Show me a passage in the
Constitution or any other law that guarantees the right never to be
offended by anyone or anything! Until you do, I can only protest
vigorously that we DON'T to be politically correct.

Um ... they say it right in the article there:

"The co-owners of the Schenectady-based Wandering Dago"

Wait - are you saying that ClodReamer was wrong, or lying?

Oops. My mistake. I skimmed the article rather than reading it as
closely as I should have and missed the "Dago". So forget the rant in
the first paragraph.

But I stand by the second paragraph, except that I see I omitted a verb
in the last phrase. Here's the amended second paragraph:

vigorously that we DON'T _HAVE_ to be politically correct.

I figured it *had* to be 'Dago' so I skimmed for it. :)

And other people don't have to not complain about it when you aren't.

I'm pretty sure that there aren't actually any businesses that use
"Nigger" in their trademark.

And the people who run the racetrack don't have to listen when idiots
don't not complain.

That's the big one right there ... how many complaints did they get
about 'Dago' before they were galvanized into action?

Schenectady? Gag, I wouldn't eat anything from there. The city is a
shithole.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I wouldn't put it past some rap music
label to use it.

Not today, although something like a small hip-hop inspired clothing
company could get away with "Niggah", I bet.

But what I wanted to say, was, I was reading a really good account of
the Scott Polar expedition, and it really raised my eyebrows when the
author started talking about the ship's pet cat, "Nigger".

The fact the cat was named as such (100 years ago) or the fact the
author referred to it? And when was this account written?
