These newsgroups are dead!! Why? Herc is a superb program with better
action/adventure than Xena and superb fighting scenes!
The current series being shown on CH5 (UK) atm is fantastic, I love the
scotish/Viking stories - Brilliant!!

Is there a UK newsgroup for Herc?

Naw, Herc was too jokey. Xena is a lot more hard-core.
Look at all the blood and death in the last few Xena
episodes.

That is the appeal of this show. The seriousness mixed in with good comedy.
And actors that could deliver both.

I wouldn't call Herc "jokey" except for a couple of episodes better
forgotten. What it excelled at was combining drama and humor (like
life!), and it didn't take itself too seriously.

Xena has definitely had some good episodes, but got far too
bizarre-spiritualistic for my taste during Herc's last season. DH still
watches it faithfully and comes back and gives me capsule updates.
Lately the storylines have gone "The Butcher of Potadeia went on another
killing rampage ..."

What do you reckon about the actual fighting-scenes themselves? I
personally think that Herc is better than Xena simply due to Kevin and
co. that can deliver the stunts better than Lucy 'n co.
Maybe I'm not being very "PC" here, but I think this is because guys can
handle these scenes better.... (same goes for Buffy vs Angel imo)
Herc rules imo!

Thanks guys for finally starting a thread in here :-))))

Hercules and Iolaus work together as a team when fighting more so than Xena
and Gabrielle. On Hercules, they tried to keep it less violent (blood,
gore, death) than Xena has. Xena (the show itself) is getting much more
violent lately. Watching Hercules fight was more realistic mainly because
he was half god. So when he beat the crap out of someone, and did all those
crazy moves it was more believable. Xena is a mere mortal, so watching some
of her fights it just makes you shake your head.

I never really thought about it but I'll defer to Kevin Sorbo's response
when he was asked in an interview where Herc could beat Xena. He said
of course, that Hercules was half-god so he would beat all-mortal Xena,
but he quickly added "Now Lucy Lawless would probably mop up the floor
with me!"

When donkeys fly. This just proves to me that Kevin is a really nice
old fashioned polite man.
Look at the facts: he's 6' 4", she's 5' 10', and he outweighs her by
50lb or so, was into sports in high school and did most of his own stunts in
HTLJ, while Lucy has several stunt doubles who do almost all of hers and had
a few hours of martial arts training so she wouldn't actually fall flat on
her face when she was pretending to be taking part in a fight.
My guess would be that if LL went apeshit for some reason and seriously
tried to attack KS she'd be out cold in 5 seconds, possibly with a broken
jaw. And KS would be really upset about hurting her
