(You knew I'd have to do it. Why'd you put it that way?
Yay!! and the whole week is already on demand, so I watched
the whole thing. Pretty compelling so far.

One things puzzles me: Gabriel Byrne's on/off Irish accent. So far,
in eps with Weist (his shrink) he sounds completely Irish and, of
course, has much more dialog for these eps. For the others, however,
he sounds more or less American, with only an occasional lapse into
Irish dialect.
Has there been any explanation for this? The story seems to indicate
he grew up in Brooklyn, but the on/off accent would be credible if
we're meant to think his parents came to the US when he was a kid or
teenager --- we know from this week's new eps that he was definitely
living in USA by age 14.
The show has been criticised for being static --- a risk for the
format, IMO --- but this week's eps are coming together and implying
(convincingly) that Paul is at his best as a therapist when dealing
with patients whose issues mirror his own. This was particularly
strong vis-a-vis the John Mahoney character who seems to have grown up
in the same kind of arid emotional denial environment.
One other comment re Byrne: he's a dead ringer for Peter O'Toole, pre
nose job.
